New lap band 12/16/13

Recommended Posts

Hi there, congratulations on your band! These first weeks can be hard as the band is installed but until you have the proper fill to get to the green zone the band is not really doing its job -- yet. This is temporary, though, and a great time to be listening to your body. Eat when you're hungry; if you're not really hungry, don't eat! The band is designed to dim your appetite. Listen for that. And listen for feelings of having had enough and stop eating. Practice slow eating, putting the utensil down between bites, and very small bites. This is a lifestyle change and so exciting -- I already have more energy and I've only been banded since 11/5. I keep thinking of what's ahead. Best wishes -- you are doing great!

I was banded two days after you. I try to eat a lot of Protein and I also watch my calories. Try the MyFitnessPal app to keep you on track.

A typical day for me is:

Breakfast- oatmeal or 2 hard boiled eggs

Lunch- tuna salad with crackers

Dinner- chicken with a fresh veggie

I also like to eat Morningstar Black Bean Burgers. They're easy to throw in the microwave. I put a little hummus on them. Delish!

You should have been given information from your doctor and/or nutritionist. That is what you should be following. Good luck and welcome to banderland.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
