I've lost two lbs since I left the hospital five weeks ago.

Five weeks out and only two lbs.

Please don't talk to me about stalls, people that lose 20 lds can have a "stall". But I am NOT losing any weight!

Am I really the only one who gets half of their stomach out and still can't lose weight?

A couple of questions...

Are you logging or tracking your intake? If you are, how much Protein are you getting and where are you getting it from (shakes, food, etc). What are you eating and drinking?

Are you exercising?

Are you getting in your Water minimum? How much Water are you drinking?

Have you contacted your doctor?

It took me three weeks to lose 3 pounds.. Don't despair. It will get better as time goes by. Or body is still adjusting.. And we may not be fast losers.. Which is ok for me. The worst thing we can do is panic and sabotage ourselves. Do u go to a bariatric support group? Talk to a nutritionist, your dr that performed the surgery, .. Bump up exercising.. Make sure u don't take in too little calories like I was doing ..there r so many factors that affect our pace.

If it makes you feel any better...I gained 10 lbs IN the hospital in Water weight thanks to the IVs....and had to RE-lose that 10 and that may have been part of your issue. Was 236 before 4-day pre-opdiet and 228 the morning of surgery....238 the day I went home! I was going to SCREAM. Took me a week to re-lose the 10 (was SO bloated) and your new stomach IS still traumatized and swollen.

What are you eating now? food types? How many times a day? Approx. calories? Water intake?

Hang in there!!!!

I know it sucks right now and I hate it for you. I'd be pissy, too. No doubt!

That said, you can't undo it, so you might as well work the plan and see what happens. I've had several periods of time where I lost no poundage, but I lost inches. Have you taken your measurements?mmif not, please do!

I've not seen a single case where someone had WLS, followed their plan and failed. You won't be the first.

I eat two eggs for Breakfast most days, apple slices and Peanut Butter for lunch or apple slices and cheese. For dinner I eat chick peas, tuna, cheese (a few slices of Goda or parmigiano), fruit, chicken breast pieces.....not all of that at once of course but that's sort of the foods I rotate through.

I love Water and always have some with me.

That's about it.

I feel like I failed, I feel like I failed at dieting my whole life and I can't even make this work.

I did talk to my Dr. and he said he wasn't sure what was going on but to come back in a month. Not helpful.

where did you have your surgery?

i am really surprised you are able to tolerate and were told to eat these kinds of foods. at 5 weeks i was moving from purees to soft foods. at 6 months i am able to eat 2-3 slices of raw apple and can almost get down two eggs for breakfast. is what you are eating your actual post op diet?

how many grams of Protein are you getting each day? how many ounces of Water? how much exercise?

I had my surgery in Perth at the Glen Gary hospital, Australia.

I've followed my post op diet to the letter. I did seem to heal quickly which is nice. I'm active and am not having any problems eating.

I just feel so alone and disheartened.

Was your surgeon dr dolan?

It seems strange that you have been able to eat those types of foods already.

I go in on Thursday. This isn't sounding what I expect from the sleeve.

Are you tracking your Protein intake? It looks like you may not be getting adequate Protein. Are you doing or have you been doing any shakes?

Are you exercising? Walking is great - I started out with 20 minutes at a slow pace, then worked up from there.

Also, do you have access to a nutritionist thru your doctor? It may help to visit with them.

I'm sorry you're discouraged - I hope things get better.

you need to KNOW how much Protein and Water you are getting each day, so you know you are getting enough. otherwise your metabolism slows way down and hangs on to every ounce. there is a pinned post that has links to post op diets. i would search for that and start following an actual post op diet. and start tracking ASAP.

your body needs a certain amount of Protein Water and exercise to not go into starvation mode and stop losing. this is why you need to track exactly what you are eating, drinking and doing.

here is the link to my post op diets. you should read through them and maybe this can help you with whatever you are missing. good luck.

Hi eggs,

I have only lost 4 lb and I, too, am desperate for answers. I am about 5 weeks out. I sip Water all day long unless it's that 30 minute window. I track every bite. I haven't really tried fruit yet, mostly I eat soft meat. I don't have much hunger.

All I've discovered is that there are a million theories but no one truly seems to know why one person loses and another doesn't. I will have insurance in March and I'm going to have my hormones checked then. I am humiliated at failing, and I know your frustration. I researched vsg quite a bit and I wish I hadn't blown off the fact that it just doesn't work for everyone.

Please get your bloodwork checked--apparently there are a handful of conditions that can cause this. It sucks and it's unfair, but you're not alone.

NothingUpMySleeve, I can't tell you how relieved I am to know I'm not alone. I had heard of people losing weight then gsining it back but not of someone not losing at all. All I heard was stories of people who lost so much weight they had to buy new clothes all the time.

My doctor doesn't seem to care and didn't have any advice.

I'm like you, I feel like a total failure. I feel humiliated that I can't even do This right. Such a major step that seemingly work for everyone but me.

Lets help each other. I'll pass on any articles or threads I find and you do the same.

There has to be more of us out there snd hopefully answers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
