hello everyone! Thanks for all the suggestions for pureed foods! Today I am very sore and have a headache. I had the open surgery RNY so maybe that's why it is taking so long to feel really good. I am 3 1/2 weeks out. I have a g tube in, which is really sore around the hole it comes out of, and I will call the doctor tomorrow about it. Hopefully, if I see the doctor tomorrow I can weigh and see how much I have lost. my scales at home are a few pounds different from the doctor's. I felt bad when I woke up this morning, so I went back to bed and got up at 1pm! My daughter took me to sams club and man it took everything I had to keep up with her. Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow. But, on a good note, I am getting all my Protein in. Still not doing very good with my water/fluids intake. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get in 64 oz of water/fluids? I can use my g tube to put in liquids, but I forget to put them in it and by the end of the day its too late. I am putting crystal light in my Water so that helps.

I've started setting alarms on my phone to remind me when to eat, stop drinking, start drinking. I also have a gtube. I put one shake in it in the mornings when I'm not drinking and one in the evenings when I'm not drinking. I started using the alarms today and they seem to be working for me.

It's a job. I'd get to the end of the day and realize I was short also. It makes it harder too because I'm not hungry. I have to make myself eat.

I'm 23 days out and still weak at times. I didn't have open RNY. I did receive 4 units of blood while in the hospital. I don't know if that affected my recovery or if I'm just a wuss. Lol.

Do you change your bandage on your gtube? Maybe the tube is pulled tight? Mine has to be pulled to the 15 mark. If I pull it farther than that it pulls at my stomach and bothers me.

I drink unsweetened Decaf tea with about 1/3 cup of Splenda to a gallon also. It helps with just drinking water.

Good luck with your dr appointment tomorrow. Hopefully he will give you good news about your weight loss. : )

Hello ladies. I don't have a g tube. Can you explain to me what it is for, why you have it and how long it stays in? I had my drain in for 9 days, and it was awful, so I can't even imagine how you guys are doing this. God bless!

I am in a really low spot. I am getting sick every night and I haven't been myself. I am so depressed and there is only person that can relate to me and she just left to go back to her home after helping me after my surgery. I am lost and I don't know what to do. My husband being deployed isn't helping either. I just need some human interaction. Being away from my family and going through this is one if the hardest things that I have had to do. I would go and be with my family but they are a 16 hour drive one way and knowing my luck something will go wrong while I am there. I need some direction. I think I will go talk to a therapist. Sorry I needed to vent...

Hopefully I explain this right. Lol. It's like a feeding tube that is inserted into your old stomach. My dr does it to RNY patients. I crush my pain meds and put it in there. I can also pour liquid or Protein Shakes in it to help make sure I reach my daily goal. He leaves it in for 4 weeks. I also had a drain, it stayed in for 2 weeks. I've been lucky. It hasn't bothered me other than when I had it pulled too tight and it caused me to walk hunched over slightly because it was pulling.

I will be glad when it's out and my stomach has healed. I miss sleeping on my stomach. : )

Sorry to hear you are going through this alone. Can some of your family come to you? It has to be tough going through this while your husband is deployed. It's stressful enough with the deployment. Will he be home soon?

Have you checked on the forum to see if there are people here that may be close to you? Or maybe a support group for military wives? I can't imagine what you are going through. My husband was deployed for 9 months a few years ago and it took some getting use to.

Take care of yourself and come in here and vent all you want. We will listen. : )

He can't tell me when he gets to come home. It's soon though. My family is planning on coming out in a few weeks but I am going crazy. I am using him as my motivation. He is the reason why I want to get healthy

Hi post-opers, I'm 5 days post surgery moving slowly along. Eating anything that will go through a straw but you sip it. Had sugar free Jello, blended pureed strained clam chowder, OMG, tasted so good. Found that I must stick to 1/3 cup and no more or my stomach really hurts. I also cannot sleep on my back so trying to adjust too back sleeping. I made the mistake of getting on the scale and was 12# over my pre-surgery weight, so stupid!! I was puffy and hands swollen, should have known better.

I told a very small group of close friends and family that I was having surgery cause I kept waiting for it to be canceled or for me to chicken out. Today I announced everything on FB and e-mail. I received the most heart melting responses from everyone, enough to make me cry.

This journey is a life long one. 2008 I had breast cancer, surgery, chemo, radiation and recovery was a pit stop which has pasted. If I can do that I can do anything. Glad to have all of you with me on our journey

cfergie911, I am so sorry you are alone and feeling so down. I have read that depression and mood swings are very common. Can you do what I just posted. Get on FB and e-mail, let them know you that you need a hug. I know they cannot be there but just knowing they care will help. Please call your surgeons office tomorrow and they should refer you to a therapist. Please don't feel alone, so many people do care about you.

I know your in Kansas and I'm in CA but I am sending you a big hug your way, right now!!!!!!

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. Hopefully you can get to the doctor and or therapist and they can help you. When I feel down I watch funny stuff on youtube or watch Americas funniest videos for a good laugh. Being on bariatric pal also helps me with feeling down and get support from others who've had wls as well. Hope you feel better soon!

Good morning! I am feeling discouraged today :(. I see so many of you where you are having great success with losing weight and here I am and it's just slowly coming off! I know that I should not be comparing myself to anybody else. Since surgery Jan 20th I have lost a measly 12 lbs. most days I get all my fluids in and almost all of my required 60grs of Protein. According to my NUT I can eat anything I want as long as I chew chew chew. I am keeping it to mostly soft foods. I have hypo thyroid/Graves disease which has always made it hard to lose weight :(. I was really hoping that with the surgery I would be able to lose faster. Maybe I am being to hard on myself after all 12 lbs in 3 weeks is still good better then WW or any other diet I ever tried! :(

Don't be discouraged, I'm only losing 2-3 lbs a week too and I'm still on cream soup! I only get about 600 calories a day! I am even using my elliptical and no I'm not gaining muscle.. so we are both slow.. bright side is we are losing!

My surgeon is 3 hours away and I am going to make an effort to find some friends. I do have support but it's just hard without having anybody here with me.

Discouraged. I haven't lost any weight in 5 days. In addition, I got something stuck on Saturday night and haven't been able to do anything but Protein drinks since - it hurts too much.

My blood sugars aren't going down either.

Beginning to think I shouldn't have done this.

healthyoutllook, You are already discouraged??? Your body is still healing on the inside and getting used to the decrease in calories and automatically going into starvation mode to protect itself. If you have ever dieted, of course you have, you know you could go a week without cheating and still not lose a pound. This isn't an instant cure, try to relax a little, drink your shakes, slowly add what you are allowed. My MD has me start the day with a cup of warm lemon Water, it soothes the stomach and helps the swelling. Please don't get in this rut, it will get better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
