Busytee 0 Posted January 12, 2014 I take the gapapentin for pain control for tardive dyskenesia (no cure). It has weight gaining properties that complicate my situation. I have verbal approval from the insurance company and my appointment with the surgeon next week. Is there anyone out there who as dealt with this.

Busytee 0 Posted January 12, 2014 Thanks for all the immediate replies. I've really been worrying about this because I'm so reliant on the gapapentin for pain control and its really help add the weight to me. Thanks for the input.
Olivia23 68 Posted January 13, 2014 I'm on it also for nerve pain in my leg and foot. I take it 3 times a day and even then I still have issues with nerve pain in my foot only. I had no idea that it could cause weight gain. I'm 6 months out and have lost 71lbs.
SuperFab 689 Posted January 13, 2014 I took a very large dose of it three times a day for a yr and in that year alone I gained 75 pounds. I was sedentary due to an injury and the highlight of my day was what I'd be eating for dinner. Combine those two and WHAM!! I am so glad I was switched to Lyrica. It's a more efficient drug for pain in your nerves and I'm able to actually walk without a walker now because my spine isn't killing me as much. The best thing is that I'm not gaining. I'll never go back to Neurontin (gabapentin) again.
linloulaw 3 Posted January 14, 2014 I am 5 days post op. I was taking a small dose of gabapentin for post herpetic neuralgia from the shingles in 2008. I have not taken it since surgery but would need to get the formula changed because its a capsule. My issue is I cannot find Omeprazole that does not say do not crush or chew. A co worker had her sleeve done September, 18 2013 and had the same issue. We have the same surgeon and he approved her to crush the Omeprazole. It agrees with my sleeve. What does everyone out there do?
magtart 603 Posted January 14, 2014 I have a prescription for omeprazole that comes in a capsule. I just take it whole.
Clexie 3 Posted January 14, 2014 I have a prescription for omeprazole that comes in a capsule. I just take it whole. This. At first I'd empty the contents of the capsule into something like applesauce or yogurt but now I just take them whole.

I take neurontin (gabapentin) and I think it may have a small effect on my complete lack of weightloss. Make sure your dr does regular metabolic/thyroid labs.
