At goal weight 7 months post op

Recommended Posts

Now my problem is letting go of the "losing" aspect of this program and learning how to maintain weight. So many fears of eating normal and gaining weight. I still have a great deal of restriction with my food intake, thankfully. I am strictly a chicken n veggie eater. I have not strayed since surgery (food-wise). I have been very strict since the surgery. I go to the gym 6 days a week x2 hrs a day. I'm 4'11" and weigh 115. I have had a 90 pound weight loss to date. Any suggestions on how I can get over the fear of eating normal .... to maintain my weight? Thank you in advance for ur suggestions!

It is a struggle, honestly I think almost harder than the losing phase. I took me a good 8 months to get comfortable maintaing. Don't let the bounces scare you, your body just does it! As active as you are, you will have to add quite a bit of calories to stop losing. It's all about figuring out what works!

Please let me know when you figure it out! I am so trying to maintain and it's hard to know how, I keep jumping up and down a 1 or 2 lbs all the time now.

Jumping up and down 1-2 pounds is normal for the body. Just set a bounce range, maybe 3 pounds, and take action if you go over or under that... eat more healthy fats, like nuts, avocado, LF dairy.... some good carbs and such.... until you manage to stay within the bounce. Something that the vets say is don't make the bounce too big (not over 5 pounds) because if you go over that it is harder to lose again.... Congrats you guys, and for most, it gets much easier to gain later out... three years out is the time when we most likely will gain back some weight...get into your good habits now... then hold on to them religiously!

Congrats on hitting goal! I'm still trying to adjust to maintenance myself. It is a mind bender! I'm terrified of gaining anything back, but I know that small fluctuations are normal. I'm up to about 1600-1700 calories a day (without exercise) and I got on the scale yesterday to find I had lost another pound. This is how maintenance has been for me so far. Having a hard time finding my maintenance calories. Every single time I think I have it figured out, I lose weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
