I'm pretty sure that you will need to find a doctor elsewhere w/ your low BMI (like Mexico). I used to live in SW MI and couldn't find a doc that would even give me a consultation. I eventually went to Tijuana and am perfectly happy with my choice. I started out with a BMI of only 30 so feel free to ask me any questions since we are prob in the same boat!

No prob! I had it done in TJ by Dr. Ortiz. It was $8500... $500 due within 3 days of booking appt and the rest due the day of surgery if paying with cashier's check, like what I did. I flew into San Diego on Sunday morning and was picked up by their driver at the airport. At 8 AM Monday, I was picked up from the hotel and taken to the hospital where I had my consultation and exams(nutritionist and Cardiologist). My surgery was done soon after and I stayed at the hospital that night. I was checked out the next morning(Tues) and stayed at the hotel one more night. I was then picked up again by their driver on Wed morning and taken to the airport where my flight took off at 9:30 AM. As for fills, I am not there yet but to my understanding, they would like you to go back there for your first one but the Dr. told me he would refer me to a local Dr. if I couldn't make it back there so soon again.

And TJ was pretty. If you go during nice weather, schedule yourself so that the first day you get there, you have time to hang out by the pool b/c it's really nice! My sister came with me and we had a great time just walking around the hotel area and practicing our Spanish. After the surgery, it is important to walk as much as you can so it was very nice to be able to do it outside.

Let me know if you have any other questions! I am happy to help considering I've had a very pleasant experience thus far.

I've Been Thinking About It But I've Seeing Alot Of People Writing About How They Are Having Trouble Finding A Doc To Do The Fills And That The Cost Of It. Then I Started To Think If Its That Hard Now Whats It Going To Be In Couple Years From Now. Thing Is I Would Love To Get This Done. Youd Think With Bein Paid In Cash That More Drs Would Do It. Ah Man Dryers Buzzing And Cats Crying Cuz He Wants To Eat!!! Keep Me Infromed. Again Thanks For Everything!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
