Anyone taking silica for hair loss?

Recommended Posts

I've been taking silica, along with Biotin - hair grows faster, although I still lost some and still do on occasion - i'm 15 months out now, so Hair loss has slowed down.

I will try anything to keep my hair, and taking silica can't hurt...

What?! 50%?!! I've already had some loss from a total hysterectomy last year, which always happens to me when I have surgery; my mom says it's from the anesthetic. Anyway, in relation to wls, I've heard that not getting enough Protein for your body is the reason for the hair loss. I'll have to keep the Biotin and silica in mind. I have a biotin/silica Shampoo that my mom go through Swanson's Vitamins... hmmm... ^_^

Here is the research I have found. spent hours this morning researching silica. There is a 50/50 chance that it really works based on only reviews from people who have used it. That being said there is nothing harmful in taking it. It's a supplement. It is all so confusing but we have read it is best to get bamboo extract not horsetail. And taking the right amount of mil a day is essential. I came across a lady on a blog that her hair started growing back at 7 mos but everyone is different and keep in mind to make sure u are getting plenty if Iron, folic and zinc in your diet or as a supplement. But silica has some of these in them. These are essential to your hair. We are thinking that the capsules might be the best as you can open the capsule and mix it with food because you need at least 70 mil a day and the capsules are 100 mil. You only need one a day. I decided to order from the Vitamin shop online. They will come from Canada and prices are good even with the 26.95 shipping to USA. So I ordered all of the supplements I needed from them. It's really cheap capered to American stores. I got 6 mos supply for only $25.98. The shipping cost is the same no matter how much u buy.. I have a friend who has lost 50% of her hair since gastric sleeve 5 months ago. She takes Biotin so my take on all of this is getting enough Protein and nutrients in your diet as well. She is going to try the silica so I have ordered her some along with my order. We will keep you posted. I am in the beginning stages and am scheduled for surgery in feb. 2014. I hope this helps. I will update as I go along.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
