BandedBrunette481 310 Posted January 11, 2014 Ok...so I realize this is a vanity thing and not a health concern but I pretty much constantly wonder if I'll have loose skin once I start loosing a significant amount of weight. My heaviest was 235 and I'm still hovering around there while I'm going through all my pre-op stuff and my BMI is about 40. I'm 23 and I've heard that my age helps with the whole skin elasticity thing. I also plan on doing strength training as soon as possible post-op. I could stand to lose at least 100 pounds though. My question is am I being crazy worrying about loose skin? Are there weight loss surgery patients out there who don't experience that much loose skin? What has worked for you in preventing loose skin? Your advice would be helpful ladies! 2 kll724 and Suzilee reacted to this
Sherlock1969 231 Posted January 11, 2014 Lots of factors to consider and probably the biggest on your side is age. You are young. You will probably still have loose skin, but probably not as bad as, say, I will. I have been overweight for 20 years and have two kids. So my skin is pretty damaged (stretch marks) so I already have loose skin and I am at about halfway. Some days I am okay with it as my health has improved tremendously. Some days not as much. More good than bad though. From what I have read staying hydrated also helps. I also bought a skin toning lotion (Jergen's I think). I figure if you are going to moisturize I might as well use it...not expensive (and I do see some difference). Also toning exercises should help. Good luck! 3 BandedBrunette481, kll724 and MandaMom23 reacted to this
MandaMom23 684 Posted January 11, 2014 I have horrible loose skin, but I haven't really done any regular exercise. I'd suggest getting into some sort of exercise routine right from the beginning! I wish I had! 2 kll724 and BandedBrunette481 reacted to this
kll724 3,055 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) Because you are younger, you might not have all the loose skin. Keep exercising, and as others have said moisturize. cheryl2586 3,053 Posted January 12, 2014 I never had big arms or legs so those look fine but my stomach omg. I probably will never get a Tummy Tuck but I am fine as long as I can hide it with clothing. Your young half my age so if I was in my 20's I would probably worry about it but at almost 51 I will live with it. 2 Debbie3sons and kll724 reacted to this
BandedBrunette481 310 Posted January 12, 2014 Thanks for the comments ladies! Makes me feel better to have your honest thoughts. I will definitely be trying out some of the lotion and exercise suggestions. In the end, I think I will be able to live with the loose skin. But maybe I'll start saving up for a Tummy Tuck now, just in case haha! 2 MandaMom23 and kll724 reacted to this

goalseeker 695 Posted January 31, 2014 I'm 35 and have lost about 90 lbs. I have little to no loose skin. My boobs suffered the most ???? I work out 6 days a week and try to put lotion in religiously. Sadly though there is no way of predicting how your skin will react. Luckily you have youth on your side. 1 Debbie3sons reacted to this

I asked my surgeon if I should start taking collagen supplements, which he didn't seem too enthused about. In the past, I have used Palmer's firming lotion. I saw a small but noticeable difference. I have not been able to find this product in stores as of late, but Amazon does sell it. For the price, I will start bathing in it! There is also a product called Skin Tight that is said to work according to 3fatchicks.com. I think the best solution is exercise and weight lifting. I'm just afraid to do any of that due to weight requirements for insurance purposes. Some people say if you lose even one pound insurance will not cover surgery! Ariellestarr 53 Posted April 13, 2014 I've heard coconut oil is good. At this point, I'll slather anything on. I'd like to at least try to prepare. I saw this cream on Amazon called AmiLean. It's meant to be put on problem spots for exercise. It's supposed to heat up or something and shrinks the skin.

cutlass6521 127 Posted July 5, 2014 I walk and ride a bike on a regular basis and sadly....I am starting to look like a Shar -Pei puppy. My boobs are taking on that tear drop effect that no woman wants to ever have.
lisacaron 5,075 Posted July 7, 2014 So ladies, I was doing some research and gearing up for my first 5K. I was feeling a bit insane but I have decided that my health has to find a place in my life, and since I work the best under pressure I decided to jump in with both feet and signed up for this 5K which is being sponsored by my job so there is NO way I can back out or not finish it because everyone will know and well I spend more time here then I do at home so I'll have to make sure I do it and well! So in preparation I have been doing some research and you know what I read, and if I can find the article I will post it, but the jist of it is that any time you are working out. Walking, running, biking, elliptical what ever your work out is you need to have a good sports bra! You need to have those girls supported and the more intense the work out the more structure you need to the sports bra. The reason being that our boobs basically are held up by ligaments and skin. We have pectoral muscle, and building that up helps to keep the girls in their perky position. That said however supporting them during a work out so they are not bouncing up and and around and pulling down (thanks gravity) will help with prevent that saggyness that comes as we lose weight and exercise. Do you buy that? No...well trust me ladies invest in a good sports bra! They can be $30-$70 depending on the make and the type of bra you get. For intense work outs you want the GOOD one. It's cheaper then a breast lift, and let me tell you...I bought it! I see a breast specialist for other issues, and they had advised me of this years ago...and so I got the low impact ones..and as my work outs increased in intensity so did the make and support of my bra, and my size has gone down from a 42 DD to a 38 DD. My breast tissue is still right where it was...still the same cup size even as my circumference shrinks. Support is a BIG thing...now I am looking into some tummy support as well...I want to see if that works to minimize the "sag" I'll let ya know what I find out. 1 Ariellestarr reacted to this
