Why is it...

Oh, yes. I relate to this. I should be doing A, but I'm really doing B. Edgar Allen Poe called this the Imp of the Perverse. It's a great little story about a guy who killed another guy and got away with it, but it droves him absolutely nuts worrying about it, so he finally confessed even though no one suspected. People are just perverse.

On another topic, why are they screwing around about your surgery? I'd find out. There's no point in putting it off. If that surgeon can't do it, find another one.

I am actually on the verge of being approved by insurance. I had to get screened for drugs/alcohol (don't ask me why) and have an upper GI done before insurance would approve. I got the screening done yesterday and have the upper GI scheduled for next Wednesday. After that, though, I should be approved.

The major thing that postponing the surgery is that I had to switch surgeons. My information had already been submitted to insurance before we found out that the original surgeon wasn't in network for my insurance. So, I had to find one that was. No problem, right? Wrong. There are only two bariatric surgeons in my state that are in network. I decided to use the most experienced one, but she's very busy. Plus, she's going on maternity leave this summer, leaving me with a surgery date of late July, at the earliest.

Why is it that you always get either hungry or thirsty when you can't have anything after midnight?

Because someone told you you can't!

It's like when you are out camping, the outhouse is a long walk in the dark, and the minute you settle in and zip up, bam ya gotta go!:heh:

For me, it's always like "Why am I too busy to eat or drink anything before midnight?" I swear that happens every time. Something comes up and I miss my window to eat or drink by like an hour, so I end up having a 20 or 24 hour fast instead of a 12.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
