Why did you all choose RNY and notthe sleeve??

I didn't know enough about the sleeve and there's not a lot of long term data on it. I know myself, I felt I needed the restriction of RNY and the potential for dumping things I shouldn't eat.

My doctor recommend the RNY because of the permanent benefits and the amount of weight I had to lose. I also had friend with sleeve and she said she was getting RNY because of maintenance problems with saline solution and getting sick a lot

Saline solution is used to tighten LapBand. No saline solution for RNY or sleeve.

I love my rny! I have several really great friends that are doctors, nurses, dieticians and pharmacists. When I let people know i wanted to have wls, they supported me by working out with me and helping with my meals at work. They tried to talk me out of it but then they saw the changes weren't helping me lose weight. I got a unanimous vote for rny over the sleeve. 3 of the people in my circle have written internationally published medical articles so I trust them. I'm glad I did. I'm almost 2 years out it's been amazing. They also helped me research my surgeon to make sure he was worthy. Lol. I almost had to fly outta state.

Hello to all. I was amazed to find this thread. I am approaching the end of my preop process. My final supervised monitoring will be the first Thursday in November and my surgeon is hoping to have me scheduled by the third week but I'm hoping for the second week in December. It's nice and comforting to read about your journeys. I'm learning a lot from this site.

Yes, unfortunately for me... the only answer is squats and butt exercises to help with flabby new bottom. I'm 9 weeks out and can already see the difference.

I was a squatting fool for the first 12 months after surgery. Still lost all my booty. But all of a sudden it's starting to come back and I'm not doing much just taking the stairs every now and then. I have some lose skin on my belly, arms and thighs but not too much. I still want to get some work done eventually but I'm in no hurry. My husband is just happy I finally have some shape back there he was little upset about that part. Lol

I'm pre-op. Surgery date is 29 Dec but I am terrified! I opted for the gastric bypass which I hear that overall achieves the best and safest results, but I am still super anxious.. How have you all coped after surgery? What has been some of your pitfalls?

Hey, I had the rny and was happy with my choice. The weight came off slowly @ first then after about 6 months it all came rolling off. I would say for me the biggest challenge is drinking enough liquids even 10 months out! It's a great procedure if you are done eating sweets and high fat foods for recreation. Lol

Hi all,

Had my procedure on 10/13/15.

HW-366

SW-351

Almost 3 weeks post op 331. Im so happy I did this also. I feel so much better already. I can walk miles a day. The feeling is so good. I'm reaching for a goal of 200 pounds. If I get there I'm satisfied. Hard time getting my Protein and fluids, but getting better every day. By the way, from Burlington, North Carolina.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
