For starters, I am examining the Dr suggested RNY. I'm 5"4'/350 with comorbidities that are shortening my life span and getting in the way of living and functioning. The list would go on. I'm 5"4'/350. I'm reaching out to the kind and to-the-point folks here.

I'm in a therapy that grows and grows, but one thing my LCSWM can't seem to take me as serious as I wish her to be about my food Addiction. I binge drink.pop and coffee.I eat /drink (no caffeine or alcohol) to MAKE SURE my repressed memories (PTSD, Dissociative Disorder NOS) do not surface. I'm a fighter, a survivor, but I'm dead set against going that deep within myself. p.s.Memories don't HAVE to surface to work on and heal but how I deal with them is what really matters. So, I use food and drink as a drug. I get high off of it. Not good.

Having the Band, I know all about the "lifestyle" changes. Doing that in every way but food and drink. I'm mortified of not drinking pop, juice, sweetened coffee's. I almost get angry when those fix"s are not available. How do you live without sugar??? I can't use any artificial sweeteners by order of Dr. And with this in mind, how am I ever to consider.gastric bypass? Painful truth, I can't. My Pulmonogist, GI and Primary have each asked if I considered RNY, they suggest it.

Thanks for being with me this far....

Well, going into it knowing I may never be able to tolerate sweets again, I had to ask myself this:

Do I love sweets more than I would love to have a longer and healthier life? Do I love eating large quantities of whatever I want more than being healthy?

For me, the answer was that I really wanted to be free from food. As much as I used it to help deal with my emotions (and darn it sometimes I still want to), it also had a control over me that I really didn't like. You know how I feel now? Free. I don't have to use food

anymore. It doesn't hold the power over me that it once did. And with every pound I lose, my body feels less my enemy and more my long lost friend. That said, it is hard to figure out how to deal with emotions in a different way than I always have. I haven't figured it out yet, but I'm trying and I have hope.

So, find out what makes you consider changing, what you want, where you want to take your life, then ask yourself if gastric bypass surgery is worth it to help you get there.

Hi! Welcome! I am a food addict. I can see it's something I will always probably be and struggle to control. I had thought I wanted the band until talking to my surgeon then I knew I would cheat it. I chose RNY because of some of the very reason you stated. I needed something that forced me to have consequences. The sugary the better was how I loved it before surgery. It's hard but it's finding a new balance. I use Splenda and I bake with Splenda. I know sugar is a no no and have suffered the terrible consequences of dumping terribly when I messed up. I needed that. Life is still sweet. Sweet as in I have sugar free items and I am pretty content. Fortunately my tastes did change after surgery and I don't have the constant raging craving for sugar anymore.

I am here to help in any way I can. It's probably for you finding a balance of what you want and are willing to give. We all give a bit up by having rny. It's not always permanent stuff but is giving none the less in the sense we give away the old things that led us to obesity. I do encourage you to continue talking about it and always maybe ask about coping methods. Good luck!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
