This is my first day on my 10 day pre-surgery liquid diet. I am so hungry! I hope I can do this! Anyone else going thru the same thing as I am?

It gets easier after the first few days, but it's never much fun. The thing that helped keep me on track was the knowledge that by sticking with the diet, I was making it easier for my surgeon to do the work, and reducing the chance that my liver might get nicked. I have a great surgeon, but when you don't follow the diet, your liver is floppy, so it gets in the way more. That means the surgery lasts longer.

Hang in there!

The first 3-4 days are really hard, but it will get better. Just hang in there.

Decaf green tea helped get me thru.

And keep your eye on the prize...10 more days till you're on the losers' bench.

You got this.

OH BOY can I relate to what you're going through right now. I am on day 5 of my preop diet. I'm not going to lie to you, the first 4 days were hell. I felt totally wiped out and had some detox headaches that were brutal. Then all of a sudden, last night, I got a good night's sleep and woke up feeling pretty good. Now I'm not even hungry at all. I'm allowed 5 shakes a day, but all I seem to want are 3 or 4 with some green veggies on the side. Try to hang tough, it does get better. I was so freaked out about starting the diet and like I said it was tough at first, but you will get through it.

If your surgeon allows it, have an extra Protein shake or some green veggies to help fill you up. I'm still dealing with some annoying head hunger so I've been drinking its of Decaf tea and Crystal Light. Fluids are your friend! :)

I found drinking warm vegetable broth and increasing Clear liquids very helpful. You get a lot of your hydration from foods. Sometimes "thirsty" can feel like "hungry" for those of us who have misused food for a long time. You're going to be hungry but increasing liquids may take the edge off until you adjust to the pre-op diet. Good luck to you!!!

Is it liquids all day everyday for 10 days? I would be making some crystal light flavored ice and crush it up.

when you add crushed ice to the mix it makes it like a shake. Also make sure to add chicken & beef broth to your unlfavored Protein diet. Variety help beat insanity.

This is silly, but occasionally we've been getting broth from the nearby Pho place, and they give you hoisin and Sriracha, so sometimes I'd add a little of one, sometimes a little of the other, sometimes a little of each... anything to break up the monotony!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
