Anyone else nervous?

Recommended Posts

As I run around to get all my clearances done before my surgery date 2/15, I begin to question everything.

Anyone else feeling the same way? Maybe we can support each other...

Have a great day and congrats!!

Hi I only questioned what I was doing after watching a video, then I made a list of the prod and cons, the pros out weights all the cons x 10. I have finished a 6 month weight management class as well as all requirements but I have so two month wait list to see the surgeon .i hope this helps you I know for me with me being type2 diabetics , having high blood pressure, and recently diagnosis with high cholesterol , I think it's worth it, I'm worth being healthier .

I questioned nothing I could not wait to get this on...I was so tired of my life and my health issues..I was ready to roll...

I think it is more natural for us to be like you and nervous and timid and down right scared of the unknown...

Like the poster said before you have to look at why you have chosen to do this and if the reasons are right for you..Then plow through it!

Even though I had researched it for a year before I had it and watched videos on the procedure I know now that I should have been scared, very scared...That said I would do it again for the health changes in me....

I was nervous the morning of surgery--scared I would be the one that wouldn't make it! But the nurses were great, and once they slipped a little drug into my IV, the butterflies were gone and I was good to go! You will be fine and thankful you had the guts to go through with it.

Best,

Amy

I have doubts and even was to the point of backing out BUT I am not! I have been on an all liquid diet since last Friday. My surgery is the 14th. The hardest day for me was day 3. EMOTIONS and DOUBTS was awful! It did not help that my children and parents are very vocal that they oppose this surgery. My husband even became wishy-washy on Monday. But I have made it this far. I had to wait 7 months and then when I had a tentative surgery date in December, my insurance denied me! This was after I already had pre-approval to start the process! So after being denied 3 times, I have finally been approved. I had begun to think that it was God saying "Here's your sign!".

The diet hasn't been that bad. I do miss chewing. The actual sensation of chewing. I could not handle the Protein shake powder that my surgery's office sells. YUCK! I was gagging. So I am using Adkins Advantage. I spoke with the nurse and she said that was fine. I am also drinking tons of Lipton Diet Green Tea and Water with Crystal Light. I tried Swanson broth and gagged some more so now I strain Campbell's Soup and drink that broth. I only do the broth twice a day because I am paranoid about waking up from surgery and no sleeve. sugar free pop cycles are great, especially at night if I feel an urge to munch. My energy level has been up and down but I haven't bottomed out so to speak.

I hope this helps. I think we would all be crazy if we didn't worry some and doubts are a part of life. I look at this as a new chapter in my book of life. I am breaking old habits that are bad for me and working on making my life healthier. Best of luck!

Thank you all for your responses and good luck to you all!

The reason why I'm so nervous is because things have progressed really quickly. I had six months of weight documentation because I've been seeing drs since my car accident in June. I also had the first part of my sleep study done and went into the office (after going to a seminar) with all that paperwork. The dr spoke with me and gave me a date in minutes. I am running around getting all the clearances and having second thoughts.

I am 205 with a BMI of 36 but I have sleep apnea.

I lost 65lbs with diet and exercise but after the car accident I've gained it all back.

Just hoping that I am making the choice for myself.

Thanks

It is understandable to be nervous, this is major surgery, it will change how we eat for the rest of our lives and then make major changes in how we look. Wow, if you were not a bit nervous I would be a little worried about you. As far as going through with the surgery.... that is something each one of us has to decide for ourselves. It isn't right for everyone but if you are willing to make the changes in your life then you might be right for the surgery. Good luck to you.

Congratulations on your surgery date. I have been approved by my insurance now I am waiting on surgery date. I am anxious and ready to start this adventure.

I have gained and lost weight my whole life. I am really ready to be a healthy normal weight!! I think I will be a little more nervous the closer it gets.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
