I have seen where some had a panniculectomy ( I think I'm spelling it right!) because it was at risk for infection, and insurance covered it. But a Tummy Tuck for vanity's sake, no I haven't heard of anyone getting insurance to cover that. However, I have learned on these boards that going to Mexico to get plastic surgery is very affordable.

YES, just had a panni/TT on 10/17/2013.

First printed the ins. criteria from their website.

Took that to my pain management dr. who wrote a letter echoing EXACTLY what ins. wanted.

Wrote my own stuff about how my co-morbidities are resolved, importance of exercise in keeping weight off and co-morbidities gone. How excess skin impedes exercise.

Took all that to plastic surgeon, was approved in less than a week.

I'm not trying to be rude but I have heard that is an urban legend. They say that the skin we would donate is too stretched out to work properly. I wish it were true.

Hi there! I had no idea it was even a thing, but the other night I was watching that WLS show on TLC and they said that was what they were doing with the one woman's skin! It blew my mind!

It is 100% not an urban legend. My friend has not one stretch mark bc she has been over weight her whole entire life. Maybe do your research before you say something is not true

I too have looked into this and have come to nothing but dead ends saying it is an urban legend:

Please, ask your girlfriend what hospital/program she is working with as Id love to get more information about this! Thank you.

Ok, so I spoke to my girlfriend. She said you have to go to the musculoskeletal transplant foundation website. After you fill out the questionnaire to see if you are eligible, you have to contact your surgeon and have him call this number 18005812804. If your surgeon is unfamiliar w this process they should help you every step of the way. Hope this helps

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
