What was your first "real food" once your restrictions were lifted?

Recommended Posts

I am getting excited at the thought of eating some fresh veggies (oh the ironicity) next week when I am advanced to regular food. So I am curious if you have completed your stages and are back to eating regular food, what did you eat first? I want a tiny salad, of course Protein first but I salivate thinking of crunching some lettuce lol!!!

My first real food was at a Mexican restaurant - beef fajitas and guacamole. But it wasn't much of either. I literally had about 5 tablespoons of food in total on my plate, but it was good. And Frankensleeve grumbled the whole time. :-P

You may find that you cannot digest salad at first...you may want to hold off on that for a bit yet.....It is tough on your system at first....

The first meal I ate when I was finally allowed solids was a chicken wing and mashed carrots and a little mashed potato...My hubby was eating a spinach dip and I begged him for one on a cracker..He held it out to me and I took a little bite..It tasted soooooooooooooo amazing..But I did not reach for another..The next night I repeated the request for a spinach dipped cracker..Again amazing..only one though...Never asked again!! But it did the trick I felt I was maybe normal again.....

8 months out and I still have to get to grips with salad! With limited space, I don't bother with lettuce which has pretty much no food value - but I understand the need for a good crunch ;-)

My first meal was actually on holiday in the US - chicken and a little mash. Ate about a third of the chicken breast and a table spoon of the mash but loved the fact I had a plate with food that looked like food not a pile of mush...

Whatever you have, I hope you enjoy it!

I plan to try a small bite first, see how it goes...my surgeons pretty conservative with stages, so I'll be 8 weeks post op, I've had carrots and potato and rotisserie chicken already tho lol those were on my mushy list, two saltines were on my list too and I've only had two, they were one of my big cravings pre op, I could eat an entire sleeve :/

I was advanced and encouraged to go fourth and enjoy a tiny salad and oh boy did I! Had smoked brisket for my Protein and oh my word it was the most glorious salad!!! All five bites ;) I had about two pieces of romaine and cut that small, then had a cucumber slice and half a grape Tomato too! Ahhhhhhh I'm so happy!!! I've missed my veggies! Today I am having a strawberry with my egg :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
