Hello! Newbie with Q's :-)

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I'm Hails :-)

Am seriously considering a band but have heard a lot of negative stuff from people who have one about things they just cannot eat anymore as it makes them vomit without fail, toast and steak are 2 examples. Now I can live without toast, but I must admit I am a little put off by the thought of never being able to have a bite of steak again! One of my favourite special dinners is a nice piece of eye fillet steak! I am well aware that if I was banded it would be a tiny portion, but I'm ok with that. So my question is, who has trouble with what foods?

Thank you!!

You may not have any trouble with any food..There again you may not like steak after surgery....I had the sleeve and a year + out I can't eat beef or pork...but I love chicken ( brown meat and fish now more then ever before ) lamb too.

Is it really that bad if it turns out you can't handle steak for what you will get in return? A healthier you...I think it would be worth the cost for sure...But that is me :)

i can eat steak. rib eye is my favorite. i am allowed one red meat a week as part of my diet plan and i make it steak. i am almost to the green zone and i was able to eat about 2 oz of my steak. on my steak night i also enjoy a baked potato. it was only half of a small potato not a football size potato but it is what makes me happy on this one night of the week. see even though you won't be able to chow down 8 oz steak your band just won't allow you. you just can't eat that much. you will be to full. your brain gets that signal that says no more. you individually will be on a road to finding what you can eat and what you can't. everyone is different. good luck.

I eat steak. Sirloin is difficult to eat but tenderloin goes down easy.

I too mourned my steak & ribs before surgery... For nothing, really, because I've been able to still enjoy them. My most recent fill was Tuesday, so I'm still on soft foods and don't know yet if I'll be able to have steak again, but I think I will.

How do you like your steak? I've always liked it medium-rare to medium.... It's the easiest to swallow now with the band anyway.

I still eat steak! YUM! I can pretty much eat anything without any issues, as long as I take my time, and remember to chew. haha

Thank you for your replies :-) its good to hear that some people can in fact tolerate it :-) if I'm going to have a piece of steak I like a nice soft eye fillet done medium so maybe I will be lucky and still be able to have a bite or two here and there. Although honestly the more I think about it I think it would still be worth it even if I can't have steak after, but that would be a bonus :-)

I've been braising a lot for the falling apart meats with rich broth and veggies. Just did a standing rib roast in the Le Creuset -- amazing.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
