laurenella82 625 Posted December 4, 2014 I was told that all doctors don't do them. I had to have a Vascular Ultrasound to check for DVT. They do that where I am to see if there is a need for the IVC filter. Did you all not go through that?
Angelkeeper4 69 Posted December 4, 2014 No. I was told the surgeon requires it for people with a BMI over 60. Mine is 60.22 lol. I see the vascular surgeon in office visit tomorrow so I guess I'll know more then.

BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) I'm hoping for the groin.... the neck thing kinda freaks me out You won't know a thing you're asleep the whole time. I can't even see where they inserted mine. They went in my groin though I was told that all doctors don't do them. I had to have a Vascular Ultrasound to check for DVT. They do that where I am to see if there is a need for the IVC filter. Did you all not go through that? No. I was told the surgeon requires it for people with a BMI over 60. Mine is 60.22 lol. I see the vascular surgeon in office visit tomorrow so I guess I'll know more then. My doctor does them as a precaution for high BMI's. I had a vascular ultrasound of my legs before the surgery. Both legs were clear of blockages and I had no history of clots. When you met with the vascular surgeon he will walk you through all of this. I have to reiterate, I had a high BMI and my weight was over 400lbs day of sugery. My surgery literally could not have been easier. No pain, no cramps, no gas, no nausea, no Constipation. NOTHING. I vomited once the day after surgery because I swallowed a piece of ice too large for my new tummy. I have tolerated every liquid and food since. I am steadily losing even though I am due for a weight check soon. I know more people post about their horror stories, but honestly there are just as many of us that had an easy time of it. Angelkeeper4 69 Posted December 4, 2014 Thanks so much. As long as I'm asleep I don't really care.
Angelkeeper4 69 Posted December 5, 2014 Well I saw the Dr today and I'm having the IVC placed Thursday ...no meds except local numbing. Through the groin so I'm grateful for that. A little nervous but it gets me closer to the OR.
