I have one. Mine was put in through an artery in my groin. I was given "happy medicine" but was awake during the procedure. I was afraid of it, but honestly it was no big deal. It is placed in the inferior vena cava (hence IVC) to catch blood clots before they can reach you heart / lungs.

Hi, I just met with the vein Doctor today. He is putting on in right before my surgery. My surgery is jan 20 th. He said I have to stay on Coumadin for 3 months. After about a year, they will remove it. When did/do you get yours. My doctor said most surgeons don't like them, but both my surgeons want it done, so I trust them. It's a little scary.

My surgery is the 29th and they are putting it in on the 24th. That's basically all I know about it. I do know they will not put me to sleep but will give me "HAPPY MEDICINE"..lol

Where are you having your surgery? Mine is at York hospital in PA. I don't know if this screen is another hurdle, or something to worry about. My surgeon didn't seem to think it was serious, but the vein doctor did. God brought me on this journey, so it's in his hands. I have to remember that! I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet, so it's hard to keep my confidence up :-/

The filter basically will catch them before they can cause any problems. Mine was put in the day before my surgery. I was put to sleep for it, but I was in and out the same day. I just had my 6 week check up and now have to make an appointment to have it removed. No pain, just a mild bit of cramping when the anesthesia wore off.

What is this?? How is it put in? Are you put to sleep or what?

It doesn't prevent blood clots, it catches them. Lovenox injections should prevent blood clots from dislodging and travelling to your lungs or brain, and coumadin/warfarin keeps your blood "thin." It is common to develop DVT after a traumatic surgery. Make sure you walk as much as possible after surgery..movement is the best thing, and keep hydrated the best you can. i developed a clot in my calf after ankle surgery (most likely due to the surgeon not having me remove my birth control). It was awful. Very painful, and extremely frightening. I was fortunate, and mine completely went away with treatment, but it was time consuming.

You're correct, I misspoke and will edit. It catches them. I didn't want to do blood thinners because I don't take blood transfusions. I don't have a history of blood clots and my veins were clear pre-surgery so it really was just a precaution for me. I'm scheduled to have it removed soon. The doctor wanted to wait until after my 6 week post op.

Don't be nervous. It's a super easy procedure. I had mine done the day before surgery. Was in and out in a few hours with no pain or discomfort. It's a good precaution designed to make your WLS safer.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
