SERIOUS pain - gas?

Recommended Posts

OK, it's been 2 weeks and 2 days. Late last week I got a massive feeling like a "pull" where I'm assuming my port is. When looking down, it's about an inch to the left of my "big scar" and about 2 inches to the right of where I think the port scar is. I can feel a lump right there which again, I'm assuming is part of the port line.

Tonight it happened again. I was laying on the sofa and had a TINY little cough.......OMG, I swear, it was like someone stabbed me. I couldn't even lift my left leg. I had to roll over to get off the sofa (which the dogs thought was great fun). It still hurts, though not the screeching pain like before.

I'm VERY gassy - even though I've lost 16 pounds since I started pre-op, my jeans are still very tight at the waist - even tighter than before the surgery and I usually lose in my waist first.

I've been eating GasX strips and I THOUGHT they were doing their job. I'm really, really working on convincing myself that it's just gas, but should it be this bad this far out? I have an old heating pad but didn't think I'd need it - I'm rethinking this now!!

Thanks for any advice from the oldster bandsters! ;)

I'd try relaxing with the heating pad, sipping something warm, and letting it settle down. You may have pulled at the stitches holding your port in place when you coughed in the prone position. It should ease, if it doesn't a quick call to your Dr. might not be a bad idea. He can tell you if there is something else you could do to ease the pain. You can take liquid Tylenol, but just don't mask the pain to the point of it being something that needs taken care of, and you not realizing it.

The positioning you describe is about the same distance my port is from the actual port scar. And the port is stitched into muscle, so if you pulled the muscle, or tore a stitch---it would be painful. Seems to me since they put something in the muscle, it might be more prone to spasm, like a charlie horse, in that muscle. This is where the Dr. would very obviously have a better idea than I do!!!

I hope it feels better. Relax, let it recover!

Kat

Thanks, Kat. I'm going to use the heating pad and see if it feels better tomorrow.

I'm so impatient, sometimes I forget I DID have SURGERY ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
