hopeful 2 bw slim,

I had my band put in in December 2009. The first year was great. Over the last two years it worked off and on. I was very fortunate not to have slippage or erosion, but on December 18, 2013 I had it removed and was sleeved. I haven't been disappointed. It feels so much more "natural" to not have the band inside. I believe it is much easier to live with. I had done research and talked with professionals. I will say that it is a big decision and somewhat overwhelming to think about. I hope that you will be able to make a decision that will work for you.

Hi everyone,

I'm a lap band patient with a partial slip, and am getting a revision to the sleeve next Thursday, the 16th. I've been having some discomfort with it because of the slip but am told the slip isn't really bad. It's all being done in 1 surgery, with an anticipated 1 night stay in the hospital.

I"m a little anxious about the recovery as I understand it will be somewhat slow going. But, I plan on being very careful & mindful, ensuring a follow liquids slowly & carefully during the healing process.

How has the recovery been from band to sleeve in 1 surgery?

I was all in one and had a textbook recovery. No complications, little pain and now no heartburn since having my prolapsed band removed.

My heart goes out to ya, I cant have my little one hug me because her little arms hit me at the port sight and then the pain is so bad It feels like someone punched me there.. Ya know the pain that almost makes ya have to pee.. She learned to give hugs that were side hugs looking forward to no laband pain!!

Good luck with your sleeve surgery!!

Hi friends, I met the doc and my surgery is on 24th jan...He said 99.9 % he will do the revision from band to sleeve at one time.

I also met two patients who had the sleeve..both recovered very fast...but liquids were very important in the first stage.

So now I am confident of the operation...and I am going to try my best .....

wish me luck.

I go in tomorrow to remove my band and revise to the sleeve. My band has slipped once and the dr went in and repositioned it. Well it slipped and the dr says it needs to come out cuz it will probably slip again if he repositions it a second time. So out comes the band and now time for the sleeve. My dr is also going to do the removal and conversion all in one surgery, pending no complications! Good Luck on your surgery!

Good news for you both! Agree that liquids are very important to prevent dehydration. Because of the swelling and a total change to my stomach it was hard to get my Water in. I'm almost 4 weeks post-op and Water is no longer an issue. After my band had been in place for a while I did push my limits. With this sleeve (and time) I'm determined to treat it as I should.

I wish you well = )

I'm 7 mos. out from my revision surgery and it has been great! I had a very easy time with recovery. The procedure was probably a couple of hours and included a hernia repair as well as the removal/revision. Stick to the diet plan and you'll do well. Good luck!

Good luck on the 24th. My band removal / sleeve revision will be this Thursday. I hope to blog about it before & right after. Goal is to help with my recovery & help others as they go through this journey as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
