Worried about the pain

Recommended Posts

Hello, this forum is all new to me but I hope there is someone that may give me advice.

I am 2 days post lap band surgery. Day 1 went good . Then today (day 2 ) as I ate some thin cream of wheat and then swallowded a magnesium pill, the pill got stuck somewhere down maybe in the band area. This brought on great discomfort, muscle spasms and sharp pain. It continued all day . Anytime I swallow Water, warm tea, Jello. Etc I end up with the spasm and pain. Has anyone experienced this or know what I can do to relieve the pain?

all pills post op while on liquids and mushies should be chewable or you need to crush them. but i think you know that now. you are likely swollen from surgery and this stuck episode may have made you even more swollen. you have stitches etc. holding your lapband in place as well as your port. the pill has dissolved by now so thats why i expect you are swollen. try not drinking fluids for a bit. but sip just enough to wet your mouth. use warm tea for now. increase the sip amount a few hours later. do this slowly. if you need to take medication. i don't mean supplements(don't take the supplements right now) but heart medication etc. crush them up unless they are time released. cant crush up time released pills. but once you crush the others add some Water to it. just a swallow. control that swallow so it goes down slowly. and as we always advise you need to contact your doctor to let him know what happened. he may have better advice. good luck and hope you feel better soon.

You probably just need to wait it out. As stated by terrydumont, you are swollen, and should not be trying to take even a capsule of meds. liquids only. Follow your surgeon's plan. Call the surgeon, if you still are having trouble. Karen,...aka..kll724

I hope you feel better today! Those first few days can be hard getting used to everything -- hope you can really rest with good intermittent walking. I would call the doctor to ask about any medication you take. They may have suggestions for liquid or powder versions, etc. Best wishes!

Hello, I want to thank you for all the advice. This forum is a real blessing!I ha d a good nights sleep and felt good Not on any pain meds (day 3).but unfortunately when I gently sip a little Water I get that spasm pain shortly after. It's in the middle of my chest. I will give the drs. Office a call today. Hope this doesn't keep up for too long...it discourages me from drinking...yet I know I need my fluids. Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
