I am wondering what to expect at my pre-op appointments next Tuesday. I have the psychiatrist to meet with...what is this all about? Then I meet with nutrition and then a doctor, then I think some Bloodwork. What has been your experience??

This is pretty much apart of the process....my cousin has her surgery in April and she had to do all these things.

The Psych eval is to make sure you understand what you are signing up for and to see if you have any underlining issues that need to be addressed before hand.

My journey involved:

Information meeting

First meeting with surgeon-----decided on which surgery and how much pre-surgery weight loss

Two meetings with Therapist

Two meetings with NUT---one was to talk about what weight loss expected and second was fasting blood work and clearance because I lost the required weight

sleep Study--I had already done this

Cardio eval

Gastro eval

Endoscopy

Upper GI

Last Meeting with Sergeon ---next week

Surgery---2/11

Out of all of the pre-op testing, I was most intimidated by the psych eval. Not the actual appointment mind you - but the thought of it before hand. Lol. In my case it was a long set of questions repeated I don't know how many times with different wording. Follow-up appointment with the psychologist a week later that lasted about ten minutes and I was good to go. All of those nerves and in the end it was a total non-event! Come to think of it, the actual surgery itself was almost exactly the same story!

I see that you are in Syracuse, NY as well. May I ask who is your doctor?

In my experience the psychiatrist just wanted to make sure I was ready/prepared for the surgery. She asked me a series of questions (my history, family, eating habits, social life, asked me to describe exactly which surgery I was having done and explain the procedure, as well as what my expectations were and goals). The questions were already predetermined and she would enter my response into the computer. Absolutely NOTHING to worry about. They just want to make sure you know what you are getting in to.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
