Lower abdominal pain? Gas?

Recommended Posts

Today immediately after eating I had the worst lower abdominal pain/cramp/gas after eating about 2 OZ of puree'd chili. The discomfort was so intense it made me vomit. I'm 4 weeks out from surgery and have eaten this several times since I was moved to puree'd food two weeks ago. I've not had any other gas pains at all during recover, so my head immediately goes to OMG a leak! I literally almost passed out. I was able to have a BM and the super intense discomfort has subsided but I still feel funky and like a burning sensation. What did I do to myself?!

Was this the first time you'd had puree'd chili? I'm on liquids still, but understand that sometimes you don't tolerate foods that you used to be able to tolerate.

It was not the first time I have had Chili. It's kind of been a go to for me since advancing to

Puree'd foods but for whatever reason my little tummy was not having it today. After posting this I called my doctors office and she said it sounded very similar to dumping syndrome, and that it would pass. I asked her about a leak and she said I'm far enough out that I would have to do something major for that to happen. So that was reassuring. I guess my PSA for the day is don't venture to far from a bathroom when eating even an "old" stand by!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
