Can I smoke after surgery / Why YES I CAN!!

Recommended Posts

If your willing to make such a severe change in your life by having this surgery, Its less effort to get to the Dr. and get the pills to help you stop smoking. Plus smoking will make you heal slower. Your stradigy for having surgery to save your body and future health conditions and continue smoking makes no sence at all.

This was just too funy. I too am a former smoker, but had to make the decision to give it up b/c after smoking a phat one, I would get the munchies like a mutha... I am now getting banded on next Friday (23rd) and although I hav thought about taking up my bad habit again, it will just defeat the entire purpose of what the band is for. However, do you and if you like it then I love it. Good luck to all of you. Put one in the air for me why don't ya!!!!

Hell yea, it's the weekend, so definetly in about 1 hr now, Im gonna put it in the air so it can reach the Heavens !! And it wont defeat the band. The band works period, I think it's just up to that individual on how quick you want it to work. Im so happy with life right now. I can still taste or eat all my favorite foods (except steak, damn i miss me some steak !!) and im still loosing weight. Now it's slow yes, but im not gaining and im happy inside and out !! And to ME ultimetly that is what I was looking for. 420 Bandsters unite !! Im here, I smoke, get used to it !!

Hey Everybody,

JubJub you are too funny and thanks for the info... I just attended an informational seminar on banding two days ago and this question has been on my mind since I began to consider surgery. I just registered on this site and haven’t even posted in the introduction blog because I came across this one .... It caught my eye because I too am a smoker and this was a concern for me. REAL QUICK for all those who think weed smokers are just walking around with half their brain cells, can't spell, got the munchies, or whatever else.... I have been smoking since I was 18 and I’m almost 38... Let’s see.. In the past 20 years I’ve earned a bachelor's degree, two masters, purchased two homes, got married, am raising two strong young men, and have a wonderful career with the same company for 17 years. I think I’ve done quite a bit of growing, as much if not more than someone who doesn’t smoke and I smoke EVERYDAY. I'm not here to promote what I thoroughly enjoy all I’m really trying to say is just because one enjoys herbal refreshments doesn’t mean they aren't productive. Just wanted to add my 2 cent lol ... By the way.... I'm from DC and we are partyin' enjoy the events in your hometown for those not traveling here for the inauguration!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
