When does the numbness around the primary work incision go away

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 12-23 and have had a painless recovery. My only issue is that the area around the incision where they did the most work from is numbish and sort of burns. It feels like my tee shirt is rubbing it and irritating it. I ask the Dr and a nurse who had the surgery and they said it was normal and described why it feels that way. They said everyone is different in how long it lasts. What is your experience?

I didn't experience that at all...are you putting some aloe lotion or neosporin type stuff on it which may help with the healing... but yes, everyone is different; but if it persists, they need to address it!

Mine used to randomly hurt like a sharp burning nerve pain and other times it would itch like crazy. I would say it took at least 4 months before I forgot it was even there. Just give it time. Remember that the incision is the least of your worries. Just focus on getting your liquids and Proteins in and unless it's hurting constantly and oozing something ignore it like a healing cat scratch.

Just depending, my doc said about 3-6weeks. My incision pain disappeared after total of 6 weeks.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
