Ahazelwo, the Constipation is tear-inducing at times. You are not alone. I have to take Milk of Mag on occasion, moreso in the beginning. It's a Smooth Move with that. I've also taken Mirilax. I noticed if I eat more "normal" food, I have an uninduced bowel movement, but Ive gone almost 2 weeks with no BM if I only do Protein and veggies sometimes.

Omg yea it's hell! And I find that I really don't eat much food so I just feel so uneasy! I will try those things again! Do you take them when you've noticed you haven't moved your bowels in a while.

Also did you experience vomiting ?! Ugh

What do you eat lol I will be checking this site a lot thank u for replying !

I take it when I notice I haven't gone in a while. I've been going on my own lately. I didn't have any vomiting until I was about a month out when I went back to work intermittently. Then I had a period about 2 months out where I was nauseated and sick to my stomach for about 2 weeks straight. Then randomly it all stopped and I haven't had any nausea/vomiting. It's like I turned a corner of sorts. I eat whatever sounds good. I'm not weighing things and all that complicated stuff. I found that when I was doing that I wasn't keeping anything down. I still focus on Protein as much as possible but eat what will stay down. Lots of turkey meatloaf and chicken Soup. I don't like my old Protein Shakes anymore. I mix chocolate muscle milk with a caramel Atkins Protein Shake most days as well. I also like Malto meal or cream of wheat with turkey sausage crumbles. I know I don't eat enough but I'm doing the best I can :)

Girls, one of the causes of Constipation is not taking in enough Water. So make sure you keep that up, it really will help...

You would think staying well hydrated would solve it, but it doesn't. I'm an RN, so I give myself IV hydration every week on top of my oral fluids to make sure I'm super duper hydrated and I'm still constipated. I know some people have the opposite problem. I think it's an adjustment period also. Either way I make sure I stay well hydrated orally and intravenously.

I'm having a very hard time with constipation now. I have not went since 01/08/14. That's the day I was released from the hospital. I had the runs right after surgery on the 6th up until the 8th. Now nothing. I have took all kinds of laxatives. I'm going to give myself a enema. I sure hope it works. I'm miserable at this point.

Do you start your own IV or does a co-worker do that for you? Be careful with things like that, at my hospital if someone gets caught doing that they are fired immediately!

:) I do buy my own supplies on a medical site online. I would never do that at work!! I'm able to start them in myself so there's no need for anyone to do it for me. Very convenient!

Some challenges for me are:

1. Slowing down. Maybe it would help if I wasn't that hungry when I finally settle down to eat.

2. Taking my Vitamins.< /p>

3. When people ask me if I had surgery or if I did it on my own. One girl asked me three times at a party because I wouldn't answer directly.

4.trying to rush the process. I'm 27 pounds from my physicians goal and I want it to happen now but the closer I get to goal the slower it moves and the harder I have to work.

5. Having a delicious meal and really wishing i could have more. I just remind myself I do get more. Tomorrow. Leftovers.

All in all these challenges don't begin to outweigh the good. I was sleeved 7 months ago and love my healthier life. I love saying no thanks to unhealthy goodies that are offered to me because that was never me in the past. I love being out of pain and feeling so much better.

Hear what you are saying but, as an RN, you will know that, without resorting to medical intervention or drugs as the cure, the prescribed advice for avoiding constipation is increasing Fluid intake, and fibre, combined with exercise.. Not saying water is the cure - but being hydrated is a good start for most folks. .

If you super hydrate and it's not in relation to constipation, are there others benefits you get from doing the I'V?

Nope. The only reason I have done IVs for many years now by the way (long before having this surgery) is strictly for hydration. As I said, this is a transitional period for me and all of us in the immediate postop period with our bodies adjusting to the changes in diet which is why some of us react differently, be it diarrhea or constipation. I have ended up on the constipation end like lots of people, but it seems to be getting better the more varied my diet is.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
