Anyone have any input how long this will last and what I could do to help the pain... I read somewhere if you have a sleeve done you are at an increases risk for gout :(

This may sound crazy but try Cherries because they have something in them called proanthocyanidins which will help neutralise uric acid and reduce the inflammation. My grandfather had it bad and I told him about this because it was In a book I have of natural remedies and he tried it because nothing the doctors have him worked. He ate Cherry pie filling. It fixed him completely! Buy cherries eat those or drink natural cherry juice which I guess would be at a health food store? Hope that helps.

I'll second the cherry recommendation. I occasionally have gout in my left wrist. It feels like I've broken a bone. I buy the cherry juice at the health food store (get the kind that is without sugar added). It's very tart, so you may need to mix it with a cup of crystal lite to be able to drink it. Improves the gout in a day or two. If you drink it once or twice a week it keeps it from coming back.

I too suffered gout prior to vsg surgery.

I use to get 100% black cherry juice. Knudson is the brand I use to get. I had read about the remedy on a gout specific blog and that it breaks down the purine crystals that form. I would drink quite a bit and noticed about a 70% less pain.

It would work wonders. However, now with a smaller stomach it may be harder to get the amount of juice needed.

Also for gout they say to use heat not ice but you may want to check some gout specific sites.

I now take allpurinol which is specific for gout.

My flare ups use to last a couple weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
