You Annoyed much!?! I am!

For me, I had a rough couple of weeks after surgery and combined with a couple of really mean spirited people I read comments from I just don't comment much. I do when I feel I have something of value to add. I had surgery Dec 2 and now am 45 pounds down. I have hit that dreaded 4 week stall and have been there for 8 days now. I have been fortunate to have met a local to me buddy and consider her an invaluable friend now!! CJ

Wow great job! Screw the mean people!!! We love ya, and we all always have something to add it this would be a boring board! :) hope to hear more from ya!!!

We are all different and our needs differ too.

I think some people need info and support prior to surgery, some want it after and some need it both before and after. Some just find forums elsewhere where it's a better fit for them.

It's the long termers that are worth their weight in gold in knowledge, experience and are good mentors.

Xx

I always wondered the same thing about if they died but was afraid to say it but since we broached the subject does anyone know of someone passing from the surgery that's been on the message board? I guess we wouldn't have any way of knowing. It is bothersome to me and my surgery is February 5th... I guess it's always everyone's worst fear. I hope I didn't offend anyone by saying this.

I don't know anyone on this board who died but my daughter knows a girl who died from her surgery. Her liver was nicked and she died from internal bleeding. That's why they are so concerned w/shrinking your liver pre-op. It's NOT a minor thing - it's very important. I've been told that the risk of complications in a center for excellence is around 1-3% and the risk of death is even lower, less than 1%, but the risk IS there. My insurance company says to choose your surgeon very carefully and make sure he is experienced because there is definitely a learning curve. I didn't want to be part of anyone's 'learning curve'.

That being said, I had no fear of it happening to me. I was at a point where, though I wasn't suicidal, I felt that death might be preferable to living my life as miserable as I was, unhappy and in pain and unable to enjoy anything.

My surgery was uneventful, no complications or problems, very little pain, fast healing, and very successful. I've lost over100lbs so far and I'm happier than I have been in YEARS!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
