Hi everyone, I'm Batty. No, really. *lol* that's what you can call me.

Anyway, I have been lurking in here for a few months now while I researched and waited to get my self pay money together.

I am in Jacksonville Florida and I will be having surgery with Dr. Cywes on April 9th. woohoo!!

I've been diabetic since 2000, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression, yadda yadda yadda.

I'm about to turn 36 this week and have 2 healthy kids aged 5 and 3. I also have a super supportive hubby who is going to try and change his eating habits along with mine. Such a sweetie.

anyway,that's me.

Ask away, heaven knows there is much to know. I lurk here allatime.

Batty

Sounds like you are well on your way Batty!!! I agree, having a supportive spouse simplifies this surgery in so many ways. It does change your life. The good changes so vastly outnumber the difficult ones tho---it is well worth it!!!! My DH too has been my biggest fan.

Let us know if we can help answer nay last minute questions, or quell any last minute jitters!!

Glad you come out of the shadows of lurking!!!

Welcome!

Kat

wow, thank you everyone for the words of welcome. ;) I'll try not to go back into lurk mode, but it's hard sometimes for me.

I am very excited about my upcoming surgery. tomorrow is my 2nd visit with my dr. I have already seen the nutritionist this week too and she was very impressed with the changes I have already made. Yay! *lol*

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
