Is it bad that I can drink water?

Recommended Posts

I am 1 week post op tomorrow and not having any real problem with Water. I can't chug a bottle but I can drink 16 ozs over an hour. Is that too much? I am easily getting 80-100 grams of Protein through 2 shakes per day and each one goes down in less than an hour.

I don't mean to sound crazy, but I have just prepared for so much worse with all that I read.

Thanks!

think all of us were prepared for so much worse. Loving life. I just drink and sip all day long and do not worry about it. Best wishes!

I'm drinking about 70ml/day at 6 days out and I'm having no trouble at all. I wish I could get the Protein in, but I'm getting about 30gms/day, which I think is probably okay for my stage.

I was struggling with my Protein but found that I could add 1 scoop (20 grams) of GNC Amplified chocolate powder to my pre made Premier Protein chocolate shake (30 grams). Since I can only get down about 2 per day this gives me 50 grams in the AM and 30 grams in a plain one in the evening.

Each Premier shake is only 11ounces so the quantity is not impossible. With the extra powder in the morning one it takes about 2 hours to get it down.

Just a suggestion....

My dietitian told me your body can only absorb around 32-34 grams of Protein at a time. Also, Water pretty much just goes straight down. :)

Water goes right thru. Just wait until you eat some chicken, you will fill up super quick.

I have also had such similar thoughts. I prepared for the worst & have been surprised at how great I have felt, and have done. 11 days post op & I am already able to have small amounts of lean turkey & moist chicken. Fills me very quickly. Love your question about Water consumption. I can drink quite a bit ( thankfully). I do feel my limits but often wonder??? The big juggle for me is separating solids from liquids with proper time in between. Learning to be more scheduled so not to feel full when I need to get my Protein in.

It sounds like you're doing great and have very little inflammation. That's a good thing. I was very similar. I could drink almost normal...I just couldnt chug any longer.

But as was noted...most studies show that you cannot absorb more than 30 grams of Protein in one sitting. So the rest is wasted. Consider drinking half of that mixture and saving the other half for 2 hours later.

Thanks for the info on the Protein absorption.... Already heeding the advice this morning! I start some puréed foods today so I expect another slow down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
