Is your weight loss surgeon morbidly obese?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is trim and fit. His staff vary from very fit to obese and working on it. They are running a weight loss challenge, at present. Some of the overweight staff are banded, some not. None of the staff show attitude toward the patients. If any of them have attitude about fat people, they keep it behind closed doors. Everyone at my office are very supportive, caring and sweet.

Ren was your surgeon, right? I used her as well. Had heard Fielding was banded.

ME? Yes, Ren was my surgeon. Have you gotten any fills with Gaspar?

My doctor is very fit. HOWEVER, the nurses are all over weight. I found it encouraging in the beginning but I've lost more weight than most of them now (they are all banded) It is odd to me... Why isn't the band working for them.

Hey everyone!

Haven't been around here in a while (mainly because I couldn't stand the negativity- But that's a whole other topic for a different time  )

Just wondering out of curiosity- Do any of you have weight loss surgeons that are morbidly Obese?

I have seen two surgeons (one did my LB surgery and the other one i switched to recently because he's closer to where I live so he has been doing my fills) and both of them are morbidly obese! I don't judge at all, I just find it sort of funny!

Ha.ha...that's funny :P

Both my band surgeons has been thin....however, I've seen a few other bariatric surgeons that were obese....

My current surgeon who I think is "fine" is not rail thin, told me that IF he had to go down the path of bariatric surgery he would choose the lap band, he does both Sleeve and RNY...

There are MANY bariatric surgeons that have lap bands..

I just saw this, but wanted to comment. My surgeon, and most of his office workers are all former patients of lapband. There are other surgeon associated with him that are all slimmer. I ,actually, chose him because he had had the surgery and could understand me better. So, my answer would be, not anymore, but previous to surgery several years ago, yes! Karen.aka..kll724

My surgeon + staff are thin, but that is unsurprising as I live in a city where there are few overweight people. (I think they hide them or something.) I have to add that I know some cardiac surgeons who are smokers, and that really blows my mind.

That said, I would be uncomfortable consulting someone in the field of obesity and obesity research who is obese. I recall a time when I was in my twenties and I wanted to consult a therapist to see if I could find out WHY I had this weight problem. So I go to this woman who was highly recommended, but when I had my first appointment and saw she was 300 pounds, I knew I would not take anything she said seriously. Physician, help thyself!

Yep kinda like an overweight WW instructor. If it's not good enough for them, I don't want it. My surgeon team, man and wife are both very fit as are their staff. My surgeons spend a big part of our appt discussing exercise and mechanics of wt loss. The female team member discusses her home diet and exercise routine as well as how her children eat. It's really pretty impressive how far they go to practice what they preach.

It's ironic to say the least. Like the hairdresser who needs a good haircut or the manicurist that needs a mani/pedi in the worst way.

My surgeon is not thin (not morbidly obese, though either). My husband made a comment after meeting him for the first time that he thought it was weird that the bariatric surgeon is as big as he is.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
