Is your weight loss surgeon morbidly obese?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

Haven't been around here in a while (mainly because I couldn't stand the negativity- But that's a whole other topic for a different time  )

Just wondering out of curiosity- Do any of you have weight loss surgeons that are morbidly Obese?

I have seen two surgeons (one did my LB surgery and the other one i switched to recently because he's closer to where I live so he has been doing my fills) and both of them are morbidly obese! I don't judge at all, I just find it sort of funny!

Mine is very thin. My MIL use to have a very obese doctor that was against 'fat' people.

A funny story. My mIL dated a man she liked and when he stopped calling she decided, I have nothing to lose, so she called him. He said he liked thinner woman and his beer belly was massive!

Skinny as a rail and the only person in his office that doesn't have the band.

Terry, now you mentioned the office staff. My doctor is in 2 hospitals. The one in Boston, where I had the band, his nurse and planner /booker are huge. Where I go for followups and groups meetings, they are all very thin and fit.

Lol, my doctor is like dr McDreamy on Grays Anatomy! He is 100% a HUNK!!

The first time I saw him at the seminar was NO WAY! He is very nice though and his wife is his coordinator in the office.

My doctor's partner has had the lap band himself and all the office staff that I have talked to have had it also.

A southern drawl!! My wicked bad Boston accent doesn't understand southern drawls, sorry. We talk different and have no 'R's in our alphabet.

I have gone to five DRs all were thin.

Most of the office staff either had WLS or were planning on it.

Also his nurse practitioner is very very large (around 250-275 lbs I would assume) and kind of condescending about weight issues. :(

Again, I'm not judging at all! Just find it a bit ironic!

When I was in online WW, there was a Bariatirc specialist who was there also, he weighed over 400 pounds if I remember correctly and was very defensive about it. Said "people came to him for what he knows, not what he does"

The practice I go to are two women doctors. Both are at a good healthy weight. Not super skinny, but not fat. The nurse that weighs me and check me out first is bigger than me. There are a couple of them bigger than me.

My surgeon is VERY thin, however, her husband and partner is a bariatric patient. The NP that does my fills is also banded, and I think one of the front desk girls.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
