Hair loss... How long does it last?

Recommended Posts

I was banded in September and this month my hair has started to fall out. As in handfuls of hair. I have thick hair but I've clogged the bathroom sink and the shower drain. LOL! I've read different posts about this and I what I've gathered is there really isn't anything you can do about it. Just wondering how long this phase lasts?

Not complaining cuz I'm losing weight and I'm super happy with my progress. Just curious!

I was told 9-12 months, but I remember having Hair loss for over a year from my band. Not looking forward to it with the sleeve! I didn't lose chunks or anything, just shedded a lot and it got really thin.

Same here, definitely get your Protein in! hair is made of Proteins so you want to keep that in and it helps the body heal as well.

I use Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner and take Biotin supplement daily along with my mulit-Vitamin. The shedding has slowed way down. The Nioxin helps new Hair growth and the Biotin helps the hair you have left be a bit stronger and in better condition.

Hydrate and Protein...those are the BIG keys to helping slow down the loss of hair. IMO

I was banded in September and I'm thinning as well. I use a special shampoo/conditioner by Redkin that my hair stylist suggested. I also take Biotin daily. And, I'm upping my Protein as much as I can. My hair stylist says it's thinning all over and not in spots, which made me happy. I would hate to have a big hole in the back of my head! I have noticed in the past couple of weeks, the shedding has slowed down. So perhaps I'm turning the page :)

You know, I would love to have Sauve work for me...LOL Luckily my hair hero buys my big bottles of shampoo and conditioner for me at the supply store and passes along her savings. I switched to a Loreal brand for December and my hair dried out and got very stiff. Back to Redkin....love my soft, shiny, full-ish hair! It's worth the extra dollars, I guess!

I had surgery in Sept and I'm losing hair too - it seems to be all over and not in one place - I have really thick hair and you can't really tell - but I know a lot has come out!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
