Struggling, but sustaining...

Recommended Posts

I want to put my 2 cents worth out here for those just beginning here on site. . . . . . . . please enter the Location (State) & Date Banded on your set-up Profile. That is the first & second thing I review before replying or posting. I am an older bander and I don't want to repeat something you already know, I am a rejoinder (as I was lost with Cancer for a year) and I think I am in "Rejoinder Hell" at the present time. . . so I need your thoughts too. Wanting us all to find our "Zone" to health soon!. . . ;)

Im only 4 months post op with my band/plication and I've definately learned one thing for sure....THIS IS A JOURNEY AND NOT A QUICK ROAD TRIP. It will have its hills and valleys...successful ones and ones where we struggle. But if we continue down the road, and persevere, we will reach our final destination of weight loss and better health.

Hi there,

I read a ton of blogs before my surgery and it seemed that a lot of people did great just by getting the band... some people never even had a fill.

I was NOT one of those people. I didn't really even lose any weight for the first few months after the surgery and my appetite didn't really go away.

I went in for my first fill, and then another and still really wasn't losing much weight.... I finally realized that i'm a grazer. I was never really eating big meals but kind of grazed all day long on things that weren't the best for me.

It was my third or fourth fill and granted it was probably a little on the snug side... when I FINALLY started to lose weight. I completely cut out ALL bread, ALL rice and ALL potato and wheat type products... finally the weight started to peal off. After about 3 months my doctor and I agreed that my band was a tiny too tight and he loosened it. I can eat more, but luckily my appetite has not returned and I've stayed away from the carbs. I am near my goal weight and am actually really comfortable where I'm at but seem to be loosing about a pound every two weeks now... Good enough for me :)

I guess what I'm trying to say is every person is different.... but I would suggest talking to your doctor and tightening your band. Without restriction it is just another diet, and clearly none of us are very good at staying on those :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
