# of nights in hospital?

Recommended Posts

1 night. Surgery at 230p and out the next evening at 530p.

Could've stayed another night. Felt crappy but thought it better to be crappy at home.

I was told to expect 3 nights. I had surgery 12/30/13 in the early a.m. I woke up with lots of sharp chest pains which radiated to my heart. They started running heart test xs 3 to check my enzymes n make sure no heart attack. Day 2 same issue, very badly, they diagnosed it as esophageal spasms. I was told I also had a hernia repaired. Day 2 n 3 I was taken down for leak test, too painful to swallow (spasms) too swollen for liq to pass threw, nvr really " passed" the test, so doc made me npo and I ended up stayn a week n a day. They finally let me drink Friday n since I cud tol liq pain free, they decided to let me go today, Praise God. So far so good, just can't get comfy. Gla.

I was in 4 nights. I was a revision from band to sleeve and I had a lot of complications. the surgery itself took over 4 hours due to scar tissue (from the lap band and from a previous spleenectomy). After surgery I couldn't keep anything down because the swelling in my stomach and esophagus was so severe nothing was passing through. I also developed pneumonia and m y left lung collapsed. They also thought I had a blood clot (which I did not). So I had a lot of complications and still was only in 4 days.

Okay, I must be abnormal. I didn't stay the night. I was scheduled for surgery at 10:45 but started close to 2. I was ready to go by 7:30. The doctor was hesitant to let me go but I was out by 9pm. Anyone else not stay the night?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
