"Anyone lose weight w/out exercise?" Anyone lose w/out able to exercise for whatever reason? I was sleeved on 11/14/13 and due to low back 4 bulging disc and severe pain, I haven't been able to get all my walking in. I'd like to know if you lost weight and how much in how long with minimal or no exercise? I'm losing inches but not lbs. female, 5'7, age 47 HW 266, SW 244, CW 238

I had severe pain in my feet, so right after surgery, I wasn't able to walk. But I did what I could at the time - which was a few laps around the inside of my workplace. And parking as far from the entrance to stores to force myself to walk a little more. I didn't do any continuous walking till about my 2nd month post-op - I was able to work my way up to 20 minutes of continuous walking each day. Now at 12 months post-op, I walk 4 to 5 miles a day, 4 to 5 days a week.

I was able to easily lose weight without exercise for the 1st 6 months, but after that, my body adjusted to the lower caloric intake and it became more difficult.

Here's the blog post where I tracked my walking progress.

I actually had the same issue with 3 bulging disc in my low back about a year before I had surgery or even considered it. I'm guessing you already have gone to a back specialist. I was sent to physical therapy 2x per week for about a month then once a week for another month. I was given a good amount of stretches to do on a daily basis and slowly started adding in exercise (mostly pool exercises) as I could tolerate it generally working my way back to little or no pain. I was also given a home traction machine. I truly hope you can get some relief from your pain and be able to fully enjoy your life journey.

All I do is yoga and not the really sweaty kind. Still losing and I'm 5 months out.

I had back surgery and afterwards walking was my primary source of exercise since it was February. Swimming helped with the pain because the Water took the pressure off the back.

I have problems now with my hip so I ride my bicycle a lot and that doesn't cause pain. Try to find an activity you can tolerate.

I am older, 67, so it is harder for older people to loose. I have severe neck pain which keeps me from exercising. I had surgery 13 months ago. I've lost 93 lbs. I would like to loose another 16-20. I have joined a gym now and am going to try to at least do some strength building. I never dreamed I would loose this much weight without exercise but it surely can be done. Now a lot of pain I had in my back, I also have had two back surgeries and neck surgery, is gone. My knees no longer hurt. My neck is the only thing that is terribly painful. Best of luck to you and this surgery is truly a life saver.

I'm only about 8 weeks out, and I haven't started exersizing yet. I keep trying to talk myself into it, but I just HATE getting sweaty (unless there's sex involved LOL). As you can see on my ticker, I'm down 31 lbs since the start of my journey 10/7/13. Since I'm 60 years old, I suspect I'm eventually going to have to do some kind of exercise to keep my weight loss going... but I'm dragging my feet about it.

And I, like many sleevers, am not nearly so hot all the time since surgery. So maybe it won't be as bad -- maybe I won't sweat buckets and be miserable -- with that change.

I have back pain as well (pain in all four extremities now and a disability rating for it), and was wondering--can you swim? I know that is a great exercise that both takes the compression/insult off of joints for exercise, is safe for elderly, and keeps us cool. If other exercise was too painful, I would try to grab a YMCA membership and do that...

I am presleeve but am worrying about exercise. I am probably having a dx of ms pending neuro. Its not bad, just uncoordinated and clumsy. Maybe Water aerobics is an idea. I trip and fall off of a treadmill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
