Band has slipped

Recommended Posts

I had a slip when I had been banded about four months.:angry I slipped after ONE night of dry heaves. I would have pain when I swallowed food and a sensation that felt like it popped through the band. I eventually could only eat about four tiny bites and feel the food start stacking up in my esophagus.

I was completely unfilled for two weeks and my slip had corrected itself:clap2: . I am now at 7cc in a VG with good restriction. My doc told me that 90% of slips will self correct with an unfill. I know mine did and I sure was GLAD.

To be honest I never thought one night of upset tummy would really cause a slip. But I am living proof that it can happen.:P

My band slipped downward as well, leaving a larger pouch above the band. My fill doc says it appears the band slips up and down on my anatomy. This is my second time to have been told this. I am currently unfilled as well. I understand your anxiety. I felt the same way the first time I was told I had a slip. If you're able to get fluids down and not having any pain, it's very possible the band will right itself. I would encourage you to have it watched carefully if and when you begin to fill again. In my opinion (and I'm no doc), once you slip, it does seem to set the stage for slippage again.

Anyway, just know you're not alone and there are many rather benign slips that are corrected with an unfill and a couple of weeks rest. Hopefully this will be the case for you too! Good luck!

Leatha...

Did you know something was wrong when you slipped either time? Did you have symptoms?

Something I have always wondered about... thinking back do you recall any sensation that would suggest you were feeling the stitches pop? Or adhesions breaking?

Supposedly one cannot feel this but since you have been there, in thinking back do you think you felt it?

:clap2:

My band has actually moved back into the correct position...yipee!!!

I had a very small fill (.5 cc) in my 4cc band.

I hope your band moves back into position, my thoughts are with you.

I do have to admitt I am a little worried my might go back to being slipped so I told Dr to only put in a little. I have only about 22 lbs to lose so I dont mind if it takes a while. Keep us posted on your slipped band and good luck!

I hope I'm not too late I have several co-workers who have slipped their bands and one whose body was rejecting her band after a year and a half. All of them had their bands replaced and are doing fine. I'm not sure why you would be waiting slipping is very serious and should be taken care of as soon as possible. If you have already taken care of this good. I pray you are doing well and get to keep your band.

What happens if one does NOT get a slipped band repaired?

I think that depends on the severity of the slip. At some point, if the conditions that led to the slip are not changed (whether it's being too tight, overeating, excessive PBing, whatever) I think the slip could become so severe as to close off the stoma completely. At that point, treatment would be urgent to prevent a very serious situation.

I just learned i may have a slipped band. i need an endoscopy tomorrow to confirm (or deny) that diagnosis. Did you have an endoscopy? what does an endoscopy show--from the inside of the stomach--that the esophogram doesn't show--from the outside?

anyone know? anyone care to guess?

Thanks,

girlinnyc

I had to have an endoscopy to rule out erosion. I don't really know all the medical jargon, but that's all they told me.

can i ask, what is "PB'ing"? It seems like it is throwing up but what does each letter stand for? "What is MRSA"? While on the subject, is DH = darling husband? Sorry, still trying to learn all the lingo.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
