Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Sammie and i had surgery gastric sleeve on 11-11-13. Well I had an adjustable bed delivered on 01/03/13. And the reason I meantion my delivery is because the delivery guys had such a nasty cough. And they cough thoughout my living room and bedroom. When they left my husband sprayed every place they went with lysol. But to make a long story short my daughther which is 23 came down with what ever they had and now i got it as well. I have that cough like a whooping cough and it is making my head hurt and the bottom of my stomach. My doctor is suppose to call me in the morning. But i wanted to ask you all on the form can i take Alka Seltzer Plus night severe cough, cough & Flu it is a powder that you mix with Water. Thanks so much for any advice

Is it fizzy?

Might make your stomach a bit gurgly, but if you take a PPI before it, it might provide a bit of a barrier. Failing that, a bit of gaviscon liquid should do the trick before consumption.

On first response, if it is fizzy, I would drown it in Water and make it 'flat'. If you're worried, maybe an alternative could be some tylenol / cough Syrup and something mentholated like peppermint tea to give you some vapours? Limit the sugar content as this can make your cough worse.

I'm sure for one night it won't be the end of the world, as long as your stomach is okay and your symptoms are temporarily soothed. If the doctor is genuinely concerned and thinks you have a full infection, he'll be throwing steroids, an inhaler, antibiotics and all sorts at you to move the cough on and quickly.

Sorry you feel miserably unwell. Hope you feel better soon :)

Homemade Remedy: I usually get bad bronchitis with my asthma, so I saved this from a search on Barefeet in the Kitchen. You mix ginger, cayenne, cider vinegar and honey. I plan on trying this if I need it, she swears it works, and it won't kill us! I hope that you feel better.

The alka seltzer is a fizzy thing; I wouldn't. I have taken Nyquil.

I ended uo grtting bronchitis 2.5 weeks post op. All I took was liquid tylenol and I took a spoonful of honey mixed with cinnamon. Just kept a small bowl of thay mixed snd covered. Anytime I feel a bug starting, I take a todder sozed spoonful of it morning and before bed. I ended uo with bruised ribs as a result of my bout. No fun at all. Rest up and maybe take some extra percocet or whatever narcotic you have.

Hope you feel better.

I've had a lot of congestion, cough and sneezing for the past week, which is week 2 post surgery. I was worried about upsetting stitches with all the coughing. My surgeon recommended Robitussin for the cough, and any nasal spray that I wanted to use. I did not have to take anything stronger but they also said I could use Zyrtec D.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
