Welcome new vets

Recommended Posts

I wanted to say welcome to all the new vets (a year or more out from surgery) that have found their way here, or have found their way back to the boards.

It's nice to more vets around. I look forward to getting to know you all better!

Yes, I second that, along with SarSar! Some have said, "Why are you still hanging around after all this time?"

You will find as you see those of us who are "vets" and have reached goal or are almost there, we have stuck around and gathered a group of peeps around us who provide insight, knowledge and a few good "slaps" upside the head now and then to spur us on to victory in our WLS endeavors and other areas of life.

I encourage you to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and friendship that will be willingly offered.

And welcome from me too. I always swore if I got to goal weight again, I would continue going to Weight Watchers. I couldn't get there with Weight Watchers (although I learned lots of good habits and tricks that still serve me well) so this group is my version of WW.

I remember a few years ago when I joined this board, it was hard to find people who had been over a year out much less 2, 3, or 4 plus. There were only a couple hanging around.

It's great to have a group of us here now!

I think this is going to be a good year for the vets forum. Hopefully more and more of us will be sticking around. As the sleeve surgery gets older and more prominent, there should be veteran sleevers in greater numbers each year.

I agree! Its really nice to have all that experience around. Mistakes and success all make for some good deep knowledge. And its nice to be able to speak freely about our experiences! Welcome and welcome back Vets!

And besides, getting to goal was just a step - granted a HUGE milestone - in the journey. I feel like maintenance is basically a continuation.... and i value the support I get here.

DOS 12/15/11 - Goal

i guess i'm a vet too :)

coming to the boards frequently, helps to keep me in my "place"

i am reminded where i came from, where i am, and where my future will be :)

following all the rules has been a bit harder for me at times

as many others, i have fallen down a bit - usually get up with out "too" many problems

it is great to see all you vets - and the new ones to follow

you all "being" there has been very important/supportive/helpful for me :)

see you all at the Water cooler ;)

i'm buying

I've been on a hiatus from this board. I'm glad to be back. The board seems to be a healthier vibe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
