What does food feel like after having liquids for so long?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering how did you feel the first time you were able to eat after liquids 2 weeks post op? I'm on only clears for 2 weeks no Protein Shakes or any blended foods ON DAY 7 and can't wait to eat...chew...swallow! I would like to know if feeling full feels the same as full felt before having the band. And also what did your first meals consist of and about how much did you eat. I'm having occasional pressure between my shoulder blades and mid chest sometimes.....I'm hoping this is not what full feels like....b/c it hurts. My rules are to have 30cc of liquids every 15 minutes but no sooner and only have the high sodium foods at meal times no other liquids 30 min b4 and after.....I have to say over the last 2 days it has been really hard to only take 7 tsp sips and wait 14 more minutes for more (the Soup gets cold) and I'm starving.

:hungry:

It sounds like your routine is very strict! I only had to stay on Clear Liquids for 3 days. Then, I could have Protein shakes, Jello, and yogurt. Even with the Protein Shakes, etc, I was feeling very hungry. You must be starving! I feel full much quicker because through all this pre-op and post-op liquids, my stomache shrank somewhat and I feel full quicker.

Hang in there...

Feeling full does NOT feel like full did pre-band! I wish someone had explained that to me better.

Instead of feeling FULL in your stomach, you'll now feel FULL quite a bit higher...like between your breasts, at the top of that space between your rib cage. But don't eat until you feel FULL...just eat until you no longer feel hungry.

Wow!!! My instructions were not that detailed. But if you are feeling the pressure, pain in the chest type of thing, I would definitely take it slow, and sip sip sip. I do not want to disagree with your Dr. I am sure he has reasons behind the directions he gives. But to sip small amounts of Fluid, as long as it isn't with meals, doesn't seem like it should be a problem.

Feeling full shouldn't hurt. Being over full will. The goal is to learn to eat until we are no longer hungry, and not worrying about being full. I have a soft full signal---my nose gets runny!!! I begin sniffling, and I know to stop. One or 2 more bites, and I have horrible, painful, LOUD hiccups!!!

When you can begin adding food, pay close attention to your body, it tries to help!

My first meals---or my first foods? First foods were soft things, like cottage cheese, and pureed foods, then on to things like chicken salad, made very moist. I had 2 weeks of mushies, where I ate a lot of soup---and soft chicken salad, refried Beans, and eggs. Then I had enchiladas as my first MEAL---I ate about 3 bites, and some refried beans---and was done! It feels different to me. I never have felt hunger like I used to. I get full fast now, and sometimes faster than others, I have to stay alert!

It is different for everybody, and different for us on different days even!!! It sounds like it is a lot of work when I say that, but it really isn't, it is just life now. I don't think about it anymore, it is just normal, to eat slow. I sit my fork down, and don't put the next bite on it even until the other is swallowed....it seemed forced at first---now it is habit! You will find your way, and it may be different, but it isn't bad different!!! Especially when your weight keeps going down!!! And your energy keeps going up----you learn to love the new way---and wonder why stuffing yourself was such a big deal!!!

You'll do fine---you are following very strict rules---and doing it!!!

That is great in and of istself---you have great control!!!

Welcome to LBT!!!

I know exactly which pain you're describing. The support group I go to had warned me about it and it's usually gas. I burp myself (kinda like I used to with my babies) and instant relief. One time, I didn't chew scrambled eggs well enough and I got that feeling too.

Basically take it as a warning sign to stop and let the gas out or the food through before you try again.

And I can tell you I was so happy to move on to mushies. Cottage cheese and refried Beans have become my favorite foods! Even now that I'm at well chewed, diced food I still love them. They're quick and easy.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
