I had the lap-band done before most insurances covered it and went to Mexico and had it done with absolutely no problems by Dr. Rodriques, about ten years ago. All went very well with the surgery. When I came back afterward Dr. Snow in Decatur, Tx agreed to do my follow-up and fills. I had about three fills , my last one being over seven years ago , done manually in the office. I have not needed one since then. I moved from that area about seven years ago and have not been back to a lap band doctor since .I still am controlled by the band and over the years have fluxuated in gaining and losing l0 lbs of the 80 I lost during the first six months after the band was installed. I still will throw up if I eat sometimes too early in the day, eat too much, or eat too fast but my body gives me warning and usually I can get to the toilet in time. I have tried to eat Breakfast but it's just a waste of my time , I eat lunch about three o'clock and try to eat at least some Protein ,

Sometimes I eat around 6 and things tend to stay down better later in the day and I can eat more at that time of day. I am sometimes able to eat a normal person's plate of food around that time. Fish goes down easier than most meats or anything solid. I eat vegetables and rarely eat breads, they just gum up and I can't get them down. I have tried eating a sandwich, and it takes a good hour with a long break about half way through it. I have eaten about l/2 a cheeseburger about four times in the last ten years. I miss that. During the last few years I've noticed that I get heartburn often even on an empty stomach so I take an over the counter acid reducer at night when I go to bed and occasionally one during the day if needed. I eat tons of sweets. I'm single and they are just easier than cooking so much. I never learned to cook for one person and always give away most of what I cook. I miss baking cakes, and eating them. candy and Cookies are my favorite things to eat but can't eat very much of them at one time

any more. If I'd cut them out completely I'd probably be as skinny as a rail. But, I'm nearly 70 and don't care to be that skinny. I get check-ups at the doctor yearly and have always checked out fine. I do have high cholesterol and take medication for that but that's all. Before the lap band I was diabetic but have that checked every year too and it's not come back, my blood work is always fine, don't take any suppliments of any kind. Have never had any problems with the lap band and feel like it was a good thing for me. I wondered what kind of side effects anyone who has had it ten plus years might have had.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
