does anyone up here have a heart problem and had weight loss surgery

Yes. I had coarctation of aorta surgery in 2000 when I was just 12yrs old. I see my cardiologist every year. Was she happy that I was doing this surgery? Absolutely NOT. She have me a really hard time and was like a Mother to me. Seriously lol. Well she made me do lots of tests which took about 2 months to do...I know she cares and what's best for me. She showed my results to heart surgeons and with my condition she cleared me. It was so nice of her to come visit me at the hospital after the surgery to make sure I am ok. Ohh I had a heart monitor on me at all times during and after surgery until I left. They didn't touch my left arm since they wanted to free that arm in case any problems with my heart.

I've been great and my heart is just fine. I had surgery on December 30. I will go see my cardiologist once I fully recover :)

Hope this helps.

I didn't have a lot I support either. I did everything on my own. And I am beyond happy. I said to everyone even if the doctor tells me I am going to die on the table I am going to do this surgery. I made up my mind. Like you, I never like someone take pics because being at 213 I felt ashamed. Sometimes you have to do things for yourself that makes you happy. Would u rather live 5 yrs, healthy and enjoying yourself or 10yrs feeling miserable and always hiding behind people so no one catches your rolls. I will chose 5yrs anytime. I had surgery 7days ago and lost about 15lbs. I am 198 now...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
