Rebanding tomorrow

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to have my band repositioned after a slip tomorrow morning. Im hoping it can be repositioned, or replaced. Ive had my band since 2006, and did well with it for so long. Im optimistic but getting a little nervous now! There is a possibility that the band may have to be removed altogether; I won't know till I wake up. Im going to remain positive though, and hopefully continue on my path towards my goal weight. Anyone have any experience with rebanding?

I was rebanded last year, I had the older 4cc/10cm band. I did not have band slippage though, I had a hiatal hernia that was pushing up causing pain in my back and chest and in order for my surgeon to repair my hernia, he had to remove the old band because the older 4cc bands don't unbuckle without destroying the lap band system, so he removed my old band and replaced the new one and hiatal hernia repair all in one surgery.

For me, and others who've been rebanded have reported the bigger Allergan bands takes a LOT longer to feel restriction or satiety...so be prepared for that if you have to get a new band, I WISH I could have kept my old band, but I am finally getting used to the bigger band and I've lost all my regain weight, It took a year to lose 50 pounds.

Since you have a slip, I would just ask my surgeon to re-position, if possible, and repair the slip rather than getting a new band, but again, the 'newer' bands are supposed to be safer long term because they lower pressure on the esophagus, but many people still have their older bands and are still doing well.

Good luck!

Good luck! My band slipped about 6 weeks ago. Mine slipped around the esophagus, though. Was yours the type where the stomach slips up through the band? They said mine only happens in 2% of the cases, so I'm not sure it's the same repair. I wish you the best. My nurse said that once it slips, they can reposition it, but the likelihood it will slip again is greater. I don't think it's that way with all. I'm sure yours will be fine. If it was working well for you. I'm all for it. My mom and sister both had it done and they've had no complications at all. My sister has been most successful. Let me know how it goes! I currently have no Fluid in mine and I'm gaining weight like crazy. Dud they say if it would be the same recovery time?

Hi Joanie, sending very best wishes for you tomorrow -- so natural to be nervous before any surgery. Hopefully this will be very easy and this time tomorrow you'll be recovering and just so happy to have it over with. Let us know how it goes -- what they find and how you are feeling. Your positive energy is the ticket to healing.......Best wishes!

Thanks everyone for the supportive messages! Facing any kind of surgery is nerve wracking! I would love to keep my 4cc band, but any band at all is better than none. I had the Fluid removed in late September and have gained 11 pounds since then. Didn't help that all the major holidays were in that time frame either! The hard part is the surgeon doesn't know what he's going to run into once he gets in, so I won't know the results till I wake up. Hoping I am able to be rebanded and continue on my way. Thanks so much for the support!

Hi, there. Just curious to know how did your surgery go and what decision your doctor made.

Hi and thanks so much for asking about the surgery. It went ok, considering. My band was an old model from 2006, with the buckle in it. My surgeon said most of my stomach has prolapsed up through the band, and formed a lot of scar tissue. The surgery took 2.5 hours to repair the scar tissue damage and replace the band with a newer, updated model. Im not sure exactly which one yet. Post-op wasn't too bad, but I did stay in the hospital 2 days because of the extensive scar repair. Right now Im feeling pretty good. Up walking around, driving, and doing small stuff. No lifting for 10 days. I have surgical staples still in place till the 21st. All in all. an ordeal but Im glad its over and happy I got right again. Ben some nausea this time around, but not too bad. Will be on stage 1 for 4 weeks. My surgeon is ultra-conservative and extremely cautious; couldn't ask for a better person to be in this with.

When I got home, I was horrified to have gained 6 pounds in the first 4 days, without so much as a morsel of food consumed. My brain knew it was swelling, fluids, post-opjunk, but to any heavy person who hasn't eaten in 4 days, a 6 pound gain is mentally devastating! Glad to say that today, 5 days post-op, I am back to my starting weight.

Although this has been tough, Im happy I was able to be rebanded. I did so well with it for so long. I intend to recommit myself to keeping with the program, going to support meetings, and working the band to my best advantage. I feel very grateful for this second chance!

Wow, glad that the doctor was able to repair what was needed and put a new band in for you. Take it easy as you recover from surgery and get back on your feet again.

I don't know how this ticker got attached to me, but it certainly isn't mine. I should hope so; my surgery was 3 weeks ago!!<br />Really, this is not mine. But thanks for noticing!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
