Hey guys so I go to my Dr this Tuesday and will be letting him know that I'm really considering gastric bypass and will be asking him for the necessity letter. As of today my BMI is 39.6 and I'm worried that if I go in and have my BMI under 40 humana wont approve of the surgery.. Also I have acid reflux pretty bad because of my weight, and problems with my knees, also I'm Hispanic and diabetes runs in my family I've never been tested for it but I'm sure its only a matter of time before I have issues with that as well. So does anyone have any advice for meor happen to be going through the same thing?? I'm so nervous and worried they wont approve me :

Is Humana part of Tricare?

I think if it's part of Tricare you can have a lower BMI but with co-morbidities.

Good luck with your appointment. X

I have Tricare and I believe it is part of Humana just a different region. I am just at 40 BMI and have no co-modalities. I do have a bad back and physcial therapy only made it worse so my dr referred me without a problem to see my surgeon in TX. I went in without any documents other than my back. I had my first appointment in September. By October I was approved by tricare for surgery. I had my nutrition class and a few blood test done recently and my surgery is now scheduled for the 13th of thid month. I hope its as easy for you!

I don't have Humana but did have a BMI of 39. I was also concerned that I would have to fight with my insurance company over co-morbidities. I hate to say this and should probably not suggest it but I ate what I wanted for two weeks, gained a little weight, and the day I went to see my surgeon my BMI was exactly 40. I was approved for surgery in 3 days. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
