Unfortunately with such radical surgery the body does go into starvation mode and you start getting muscle wastage as well as fat burning. Also, there is come scope for increasing the 3 lb a week rule for people who are truly classified as morbidly obese - i.e with a BMI of way more than 45. For one they are carrying much more Water than other people and so lose it over a longer period, but they are also capable of burning many more calories than lower BMI people, so they can lose fat faster under starvation conditions.
