How long was everyone one off work after surgery?

Surgery on Monday, back to work part time the following Wednesday, back full time 2 weeks from surgery. It kicked my butt the first week or two but I also think me being up and around is part of the reason my recovery was so easy. (I stand, walk, and talk, the only thing I lift is a laptop and stethoscope).

Thanks. I sit down all day and talk to people. I am hoping to only have to take one week off but was wondering how realistic my thoughts were. Is one week realistic?

I was supposed to do a week but ended up staying in-patient until late on day 4 so my doc made me add 2 extra days off :P. It is extremely variable though. By day 5 or 6 I was only taking pain meds at bedtime and I was up moving around doing everything necessary to run a household (single momma). Other than being sore and slow (and tired) I was fine to go back, but there are people on here with sedentary jobs who take 6 weeks and need every day of it! I think it's possible, but have a back-up plan just in case (I took my heating pad to work the first couple weeks and slapped it on between patients...heaven, pure heaven). NATURALLY, always do what your doc says :)

Hi there! So I was sleeved almost 3 weeks ago and I asked the exact same question. A lot of people kept telling me 2-3 weeks off work... That was not the case for me! I travel and am in sales (in and out of the car all day) and I was sleeved on a Tuesday and felt fine and went back to work Monday. That being said, I only worked a half day due to weather, but I would have been completely fine, especially sitting at a desk all day! The only pain I had was a bit of discomfort getting in and out of the car (and in and out of bed). Again, I think everyone is different on how they handle recovery, but that was how it went for me!

I thought I would maybe be out 2 but my Dr says mandatory 4 weeks.

I will say that 1 week would have been rough for me in that I needed my nap-e-poo's in the afternoon. I was tired late in week 1, early week 2. I am now at the end of week 2 and am feeling anxious to get back to work. So, for me, I think 2 weeks is going to be ideal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
