I-band or Lapband?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how many of you got the extra step with your Lapband, the I-band? My doctor did it on me and said it really makes the Lapband surgery more beneficial. So I was just curious if anyone has had it done.

I did and I believe it has been a benefit. No bandster he'll. I prob could have lost most of my weight without fills but have had them which has made weight loss more effective. My doctor says slips less likely too

What's an I-Band?

Just just another name for band with plication. My surgeon told me that a lot of surgeons refer to the plication as imbrication which is I guess where they come up with the I in iband.

This is the Iband information from my doctors website. The brief in it is they fold your stomach in half like a taco and stitch it, your stomach looks like you had a sleeve. The point being though that the nerve that runs on top and the nerve that runs along the bottom of your stomach touch each other and send a message to your brain that your stomach is full and you have less stomach to fill so you don't get hungry as much as the typical Lapband. Suppose to have a better success rate, hoping it is true!

I had this done in September....doing great so far....didnt experience what i've read many say is bandster hell...ok with 3 meals and 1 snack (some days) between lunch and dinner. Haven't gotten a fill yet...we will see what happens in the coming months. Still fight with head hunger and making good choices for myself. It is just an extra tool that MUST be worked on my journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
