Pre op diet

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I was wondering if when ur surgeon placed you on your pre op diet if you struggled in the beginning.

And if u had cravings for something how did u suffice it?

The first couple of days can be rough, but then I did o.k. It helped that my hubby did it with me. I would suggest getting rid of all the tempting foods in your house.

it was so hard. but i knew i had to do it to shrink the liver. as long as i kept busy, and would scramble an egg when super hungry (this was allowed for me)

Yes I found it difficult too. I even poked fun at the nurse - after my 3 month of pre-op diet per insurance with appetite suppressants they change me to this low cal pre op diet with no appetite suppressants was just cruel!! Knowing that this pre-op diet helped with a smoother surgery helped to keep me on track. Sometimes I would add extra Water (maybe 2oz) to my Protein shakes to help me feel fuller. I drank a TON of Water too to try to feel full.

Good luck!!

Thank you.

Man. Right now my surgeon has me taking the sugary stuff out of my diet. Cookies ice cream cake pie. Ahhhhh I'm totally addicted not going to lie lol.

I did go through and got rid of things and now I'm realizing omw how did I forget that lol.

I'm trying to do good and Lord knows I'm failing terribly at this right now.

But!!! The end has not come and I can get through this. Thank you everyone for your support and Advice i appreciate it

it really helped to think about my liver. if your liver is enlarged and your surgeon is trying to put the band in and can't because of your liver being to big you will wish you didn't go off the diet. one more thing i need to add. you will continue to diet even after the band is in place. now is the time to learn discipline. you are going to need it after surgery as well. the band is a tool to help you loose wt. but there isn't a band on your brain. if you are having trouble staying on the diet you may need some counseling.

please listen to yourself and know that you really need to rein yourself in and think about what this all means to you. i wish you well and i wish for you a successful surgery

It was very difficult in the beginning but after a few days, I kind of fell into a routine and it was all good. I usually ate sugar free Jello or sugar free popsicles if I was having cravings. Honestly though, after the first few days, I really didn't have a lot of cravings.

I actually loved the pre-op diet. I challenged myself that this was the only way I could possibly be healthy. Atkins Diets gave me quick results then after a period of time, I gained most of the weight back. I started on liquid Protein and thin Soups prior to the surgery and lost 34 pounds. I only had to lost 12-14 pounds. To this day over a year since lapband I still use Protein shakes evry now and then. I enjoy drinking them and its still a quick way to gaining needed Protein. My doctor is against me staying on shakes, but I know what works for me. I stay on 1300-1500 cals a day. light exercise only. I am not an exercise freak. So weight loss has been slower for me. My doctor has also been slow on "fills". He wants me to understand what to eat and not just rely on a fill.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

I think I lost about 11 lbs on the preop diet. As for the liver, it is to shrink it. They could do the surgery with the liver large, but it stands more of a change of being damaged during the process. Think of the poor nurse who has to stand on the other side of you and hold your liver over while the doctor does the surgery, lol. Do her a favor and stick with your preop diet. Plus, this is a good preparation cuz youll also have a post op diet and then have to stick to a pretty strick regimen after the surgery til the weight is gone.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
