It works

Sometimes I let myself get too hungry and what I really want is a cheeseburger. This is totally trigger. I'm ravenous and get a cheeseburger. I usually take half the bun off. I have my mins set that I'm going to eat this burger. Then the restriction kicks in usually with discomfort for eating too fast. I hate it. I'm mad because the head hunger is powerful and I want to eat the whole damn burger. There are other irrational thoughts like: I know what I'm choosing right now. I know how to control this. Still the tool holds and I've eaten half a burger. I find the gratitude and remember that I can not let myself get this hungry. 18 months out and this has happened maybe 3 times. It's just really powerful because I don't have the choice to stuff my gob when I feel out of control. I love my sleeve.

I know all the advice says to concentrate on eating and do nothing else. No tv, no computer, no reading, etc. I find that when I am super starving and about to stuff my gullet (with intent, not ability), I open my email or turn on a show and take a bite. I savor it while doing whatever and then take another a few minutes later. Doing something else while eating slows me down so much, I don't have time to be pissed that I can't eat. My restriction keeps me from over eating along with the fact that if I buy or make my version of your burger, I only put out a few bites.

My restriction is doing it's job, like yours, but distraction is helping me keep my mind off my inability to satisfy my mental issue.

Maybe I'm weird.

That doesn't sound weird. That sounds skillful because you're aware. In many ways that is mindful eating. The tv thing is all that mindless eating people get into night after night. I think what you're describing is different!

I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. I'm mobile 99% of the time and the notifications are wonky.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
