So this is my 6th day after surgery. I feel great maybe a little light headed at times. I haven taken any medication since I got home Wednesday.

I am going back to work on Monday since I have an office job. I will have to tell my boss that I will have to take my time for few weeks until I heal.

Do you guys think it's to soon for me to go the gym on Monday? Only walk on the treadmill? Because I only weigh 210 the doc said it will take a lot more effort for me to lose weight...so I thought why not walk for 30min on a treadmill....

I am also reading a book called "breaking the emotional tie to food" and it's helping a lot. I had broth and now tea and just relaxing and reading :)

Knock on wood I haven't had any problems this far. No acid or gas.. :)

What did your doctor tell you about exercise, or what was on your discharge instructions? When I saw my doctor at my 1 week post-op visit, I was released to do more than walk. If you feel light headed at times, you might not want to walk on a treadmill or other exercise equipment at this time, or do it slower and not on an incline. It would suck if you hurt yourself on the treadmill from being light headed and resulted in a further delay before you can begin working out normally. I know it's hard because you want to get out there and do everything you can right now. In another week or so, you should be able to do a lot more in the way of exercise.

Good luck.

You are right, maybe I should wait until Thursday to see my doctor.

My doctor told me only walking till he sees me again for my one month check up and then he will release me to workout. He said that even though I may feel like doing more my inside is still healing and its not like the outside when you can feel it. I figure better safe than sorry. I also took three weeks off to let myself heal and to get use to eating because its trial and error it seems. I work from home so I don't have to worry so much about eating the wrong things. I'm glad I took the extra two weeks off to get use to this, I had originally only wanted one week also, but my doctor insisted on two weeks and then a third due to I also had a hernia repaired that I didn't know I had.

I was allowed to walk all I wanted for the first 8 weeks then I was released to do weights etc at the gym. I would say you're ok to walk on a treadmill now but if you're unsure, simply make a call to your doctors office and just ask. They'll be happy to let you know. :)

I had to be up and walking right after the surgery. I was up and walking around the hospital floor.

And I have been walking 30-60mins, going anywhere from .5 to 1.5 miles and I am 9 days postop.

Walking and walking on a treadmill are two different things. I walked after surgery also but not on any type of equipment until released by my doctor.

I totally agree with this statement. Walking right after surgery is not only ok but recommended. Getting on a treadmill is a whole different experience. If you are light headed or even if you think you are ok you can't miss a step on the treadmill without risking a fall. The first few weeks I was walking around the house at every commercial break and more so back and forth across the room. I would tell you to walk around the house or outside (maybe with someone). Once I started back on the treadmill after about 3 weeks I went at half speed due to the internal healing.

Good luck to you

My doctor told me I need to wait 6 weeks before I do anything more than walk around (on the ground, not on a treadmill!). Remember, your body has just undergone major surgery and needs time to heal! One thing my doctor told me was that I might be feeling energetic enough to exercise but if I do its likely that I'll burn out quickly. Your body needs to put that energy towards healing. I know how frustrating it is, I am 12 more days away from the earliest I can be cleared for exercise and it's killing me! However, after hearing from my surgeon about a patient who ignored his advice because she felt so energetic that she hopped on a treadmill, only to faint, hit her head and wind up in the hospital again, I decided I wouldn't take my chances!

I know you want the weight to come off quicker, and I know it sucks to wait, but you'll soon have the rest of your life to exercise to your heart's content. Just take care of yourself with rest and relaxation for now. :)

Mine too...on all 3 points.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
